Dogs are truly special creatures. They touch everybody in different ways, whether they are young or old. Vendela Bekken was so smitten when she caught her 96-year-old grandmother palling around with her Cocker Spaniel puppy. The granny was loving the attention, that's for sure.

Bekken was paying her grandmother a visit when she caught the precious moment on camera.

You can sort of tell when a dog is going to hit it off with someone. And the video proves that these two were clearly meant to be.

In the clip, the student brought her Cocker Spaniel puppy Hector along for a visit to grandma's house. She placed the pup on her grandmother's bed and let the little guy explore. It was so cute! Granny was wrapped up tight in her blanket. Just being near the pup made her so happy, she laughed and laughed.

"My 96-year-old grandma and her best friend," Bekken wrote in the onscreen caption.

Commenters were so touched by grandma and her bestie. "Omg it’s like she’s a little girl again and she has her best friend," wrote one person. "My g-ma just got two puppies and you can tell she needed them," someone else added. "Melts my heart. I have always loved Cocker Spaniels since I was a young girl. I miss my grandma!!!" someone else added. While another commenter agreed that these are the kinds of memories you should cherish. "This is incredibly sweet. Hold both close to your heart. I wish my grandma was still around," they wrote.

Best Breeds for Seniors

Everyone could use a dog in their life. For seniors, dogs are a huge source of companionship and have tons of emotional and health benefits too. But not all breeds are good matches for older folks. Some might be very active, while others are probably better suited for large families. Here are some of the best breeds for senior citizens.

Bichon Frisé are the perfect lap dogs. These little guys are sweet and joyful — and perfect for people with allergies too.

Shih Tzus are another good pick. These dogs were bred to be companions and love nothing more than to sit by their owner's side.

Pomeranians are small — really small. In fact, they usually weigh anywhere from 3 to 6 lbs., making them the perfect pet for people who live in apartments.

Corgis are another great option if you want a pup that's a little on the larger side. And Poodles are another great breed if you're looking for a large dog.

It just goes to show that at any stage of life dogs are always the best of friends.
