Begging Newfie Hits the Jackpot When Sister Makes Him a Bowl of Ice Cream

If you have a dog, no matter how well behaved and trained they are, chances are at some point or other, they've begged for whatever you are eating. When my dog begs, I send her to her bed. When she begs and my family is around, they give in, because who can resist those big brown eyes (or at least that's what they tell me!).

Chewie is a Newfoundland, and quite the beggar. In this video his family shared on Tuesday, September 17th, his sisters are enjoying some ice cream out on the patio. He of course is begging for a taste when one of his sisters asks if she can make him a bowl of his own. He was so excited about the unexpected treat!

I love that they spoil Chewy every now and then! With summer wrapping up, there won't be many more days that we can all enjoy a bowl of ice cream on the patio, so might as well do it while we can. Commenters also found the video adorable. One pointed out, "Chewy needs his jumbo pup cup!" Yes, he needs a very jumbo one! @Justina Marie wondered, "Who can say no to that sweet baby face?!" and Chewy's mom responded, "It's so hard - we just always say yes LOL!"

Do Newfoundland Dogs Make Good Pets?

If you're looking for a big, cuddly pooch, a Newfoundland might be the perfect addition to your family. Newfoundlands are huge dogs, but they're also referred to as gentle giants. The AKC Standard describes them this way, "Sweetness of temperament is the hallmark of the Newfoundland."

When I say big, I mean big. Males can stand up to 28 inches tall and weigh between 130 and 150 pounds, but some can weigh up to 200 pounds or more! Females stand up to 26 tall and weigh between 100 and 120 pounds. These gentle giants are known for their patient temperaments and patience with children and other animals.

But be warned! Newfoundlands, or Newfies as their humans lovingly refer to them, are not only big, but they've got a ton of fur. They have a large, heavy double cut with a long outer coat and shorter undercoat. Yes, they shed a lot. While they are considered like many breeds to be seasonal shedders, they shed daily, and you'll be vacuuming every day (or even more often). They also pant and drool a lot; their large jowls and loose lips allow for saliva to fill up and spill over. They drink a lot of water and enjoy putting their entire head into their water bucket. They're messy dogs but they're just so cute!

Socialization and training are important since Newfies can be a bit stubborn. As with any pet, make sure you do your research before bringing them home to ensure that your family and the dog are a good match and that they fit into your lifestyle (and you into theirs!).
