Brave Woman Tries to Bond With Her ‘Independent’ Blue Heeler and It Goes Hilariously Wrong

Dogs are so loving. Dogs are so affectionate. Dogs love people. Well, not all of them. Nope, some of them are more of the hands-off types, like Arya, who likes her space. That's a pretty bitter pill for her mama, who recently shared a brave attempt to give her pup a little affection.

We're sure Arya is a good dog, but let's just say she's not the touchy-feely type.

Arya's mom looked positively terrified as the two sat on the couch together. Was she really going to do it? Was she really going to try and cuddle with her Blue Heeler?

"Me trying to initiate cuddling with my independent dog," she wrote in the onscreen caption. The video shows her slowly reaching over to Arya who was resting beside her. The woman tepidly rested her hand on the Australian Cattle Dog's paw and mere seconds later the dog shook her owner's hand off and moved her paw away. Dang, that has to smart.

"Baby steps," the woman joked in the caption.

It was brave of the woman to share the diss on the internet. "Your dog is saying 'Ma'am, why do we keep doing this? At this point you're hurting your own feelings,'" teased one person. "Not even just moving the paw but tucking it in so you can’t touch it again," another person added. "Your heart is in the right place but your hand is not," kidded one commenter. And sadly it seems like there are many other dogs like this out there. "Mine's like this but you must stay in the room. So he wants company but from a distance," one woman added.

Dogs That Don’t Like Affection

We guess there are really dogs out there that don't like to snuggle. Who would have guessed? There are actually several breeds that aren't exactly the cuddly type, which might be appealing if you like a little distance yourself.

Irish Wolfhounds are big beautiful dogs that have a strong prey drive. They're naturally very independent and prefer to sit at their owner's feet rather than cuddle on their lap.

Shiba Inus are another breed that are sort of aloof. In fact Shiba Inus have the reputation for being sort of "cat-like." They prefer to approach people on their own terms, so don't take them to the dog park and expect them to be the belle of the ball.

Afghan Hounds can be affectionate — but not with many people. They love their owner, but aren't necessarily big fans of other people.

So it seems like Arya isn't alone in her love of me time. In fact it seems like she's in good company.
