After a washout spring and early summer, the mercury is finally rising across the UK. Temperatures are expected to stay high for most of England until Wednesday 31 July, with heat health warnings and yellow weather warnings issued by the UK Health Security Agency and the Met Office.

However, despite numerous complaints about wet and chilly conditions in June and early July, the hot weather isn't cause for celebration for some Brits.

Talking about the weather is something of a competitive sport for Britons, and when the temperature gets too hot to handle, grumbling about it becomes a common topic of conversation.

Whether it's griping about how sweaty we are on public transport or lamenting a lack of sleep due to uncomfortably warm nights, making our thoughts about the weather known is a very British way of coping with the heat.
