Brock Bowers ankle update: X-rays negative on Georgia tight after injury vs. Vanderbilt

Georgia tight end Brock Bowers has been ruled out of the Bulldogs' game vs. Vanderbilt on Saturday after leaving the game in the second quarter with a left rolled ankle vs. the Commodores.

Bowers attempted to get up off the field in Nashville under his own power before slamming his fist on the turf. He ultimately limped off the field under his own power before heading into the medical tent. He then left toward the locker room at FirstBank Stadium.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart later indicated Bowers had a "low-ankle" sprain but that he was otherwise in good spirits. X-rays were negative after the game, though the severity of the injury is not yet known.

X-rays were negative after Bowers suffered the injury at the 11:27 mark in the second quarter (the play was negated by a Carson Beck hold). The Georgia tight end had his left ankle rolled by Vanderbilt safety Savion Riley. He attempted to leave the field before falling to his knees and punching the ground in frustration.

Bowers left the field to head to the injury tent, then left for the locker room. The telecast later showed him exiting the locker room while limping heavily.

Kirby Smart update on Brock Bowers injury

Smart provided an update on Bowers' injury at halftime, saying the tight end was in good spirits and that he thinks he had a low-ankle sprain.

"He was good. He was in good spirits. He's got a little bit of an ankle sprain on the bottom part of his foot. But he thinks he'll be fine. They went to go X-ray it and check it out."

Bowers, a junior, has 41 receptions for 567 yards and four touchdowns this season. He also has a rushing touchdown.

For his career, Bowers has 170 receptions for 2,391 yards and 24 touchdowns. He had 882 yards with 13 touchdown receptions as a freshman and 942 yards with seven TD receptions as a sophomore.

He has five career rushing touchdowns.

Brock Bowers entered the 2023 season as a projected top-5 NFL draft pick, according to Pro Football Focus.

ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper had Bowers as the fourth-best prospect in his updated draft rankings published Friday.
