Dogs are social creatures, and they love hanging out with other dogs. Considering adopting another dog to add to your family is such an exciting prospect, but there are some things you should consider first.

Probably the biggest consideration is financial. Dog food, an additional crate, toys, and most of all vet bills are something to think about if you want to add another pup. Double the dogs, double the expenses.

When adopting a dog, arrange an interview with your local Humane Society or animal shelter to meet dogs that get along well with other dogs. You may even be able to take a dog that you're considering adopting to meet your dog either at a dog park or at your home to see how they get along. Keep in mind that if a dog is trepidatious or nervous at first that may not mean the dog isn't a good fit, dogs that have spent a long time in shelters need time to warm up to new people and even potential sibling dogs.

Make sure all your family members are onboard with adopting another dog, and willing to help care for him and walk him.

Adding another dog is such a wonderful and exciting thing to do, and you know what they say, two are better than one. That's especially true with the love and joy an additional dog brings.
