Celebrity MasterChef viewers were unimpressed with Dominic Skinner’s quarter-final dish, which involved Korean bang bang chicken, broccoli, and basmati rice.

Controversially, the makeup artist added some creative flair to his rice, as he used spirulina power to make it electric blue.

While the judges were split on the colourful dish, viewers were more skeptical as they shared their opinions on X.

The latest episode of Celebrity MasterChef featured Skinner, Vito Coppola, and Mutya Buena all battling it out for a place in the competition’s semi-final.

Alongside regular judges, Gregg Wallace and John Torode, three former Celebrity MasterChef contestants were tasked with sampling the trio’s two-course meal: Mica Ven, Danny Jones, and Lisa Faulkner.

For the most part, judges were impressed by the Glow Up star’s creative twist on rice — but viewers on X remained unsure.

“Blue rice should only be eaten by Smurfs,” one declared. “Nobody wants blue rice,” another emphasised. “NOBODY.” While a third conjured up some delightful imagery, comparing the rice to “mouse droppings after they've eaten the poison.”

But it wasn’t all doom and gloom among viewers, as a fourth X user joked that “Fanny Cradock would approve” of the dish.

Meanwhile, numerous other viewers pointed to what is apparently an age-old rule: never eat yellow snow or blue rice.

While Torode pointed out that the rice tasted unseasoned, Wallace said: “You can’t deny the man was pushing himself.”

Torode then added: "He wants to cook outside the boundaries of normal, everyday food, he sort of wants to shock a little bit, and in a way, he has done that.”

Meanwhile, Ven remarked that the rice didn’t need to be blue.

Still, rice reservations didn’t stop Skinner from bagging a place in the Celebrity MasterChef semi-final, as he himself admitted that it was a bit of a risk.

“I thought I may have pushed it a little too far with the blue rice, but yeah maybe colour’s the thing,” he said.

Celebrity MasterChef airs on BBC One at 8pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
