All-Daily Record Softball 2022-23: multi-talented pitchers headline all-area team

The 2022-23 All-Daily Record softball team:

FIRST TEAM

Carter Wachtel, Triway, jr.

Once again, Wachtel was at the center of Triway's regional run. Showing the moxie of a veteran inside the circle, she set the pace for a young team with 249 strikeouts, a 0.84 ERA and swatted the ball at a .506 clip. ... Div. III first-team All-State, PAC-7 Player of the Year

Belle Dalton, Hillsdale, jr.

Played gold-glove defense behind the plate and continued to swing a big stick at the plate. She hit .478 with 10 doubles, 23 RBIs and scoring 28 runs. ... Div. III honorable mention All-State

Karena Burgess, Loudonville, jr.

Overcoming an injury this spring, Burgess made the switch across the diamond from third to first base seamlessly. Burgess finished hitting .447 with 47 RBIs and scored 36 runs.

Kaitlyn Mazzocca, Tuslaw, sr.

One half of Tuslaw's Mazzocca twins, the second baseman patrolled her position with expert consistency. She hit .459, scored a team-high 37 runs and drove in 21 runs.

Riley Gwinn, Norwayne, fr.

Burst on the scene as a freshman and developed a penchant for delivering when it mattered most for Norwayne. Gwinn finished hitting .432, swatting four homers and driving in 22 runs.

Hanna Massaro, Triway, jr.

Made the switch from leftfield to shortstop and put on a gold-glove performance. Showing range, a big arm and a vacuum glove, she added a .510 average with 38 RBIs and 36 runs scored. ... Div. III honorable mention All-State

Marina Aulger, Northwestern, sr.

It was a breakout senior year for Aulger, who played superb in the field and packed a mean punch at the dish. She swatted an area-high nine homers, drove in 41 and scored 36.

Kenzie Woods, West Holmes, jr.

The shortstop was outstanding in the field and helped her team by swinging a hot bat. Woods finished with .424 average with 32 runs scored and 21 RBIs.

Emma Flinner, Triway, sr.

Triway’s rock at first base, this senior set a shining example for her young team both in the field and at the plate. Flinner belted four homers, drove in 41, scored 30 runs and hit .465.

Taylor Morgan, Hillsdale, sr.

The star pitcher anchored her team’s rotation with a 1.42 ERA and struck out 215. At the plate, Morgan was one of her team’s best, hitting .519 with 37 RBIs. ... Div. III second-team All-State, WCAL Player of the Year

Mollie Goon, Hillsdale, so.

Hillsdale's shortstop was electric in the field, flashing the leather consistently and led the team with a .544 average. Goon finished with 34 runs scored and drove in 28.

Olivia Amstutz, Northwestern, jr.

The ace of the Huskies staff, Amstutz established herself as one of the area’s top pitchers with a 2.36 ERA, 153 strikeouts and a 11-4 record. She packed punch at the plate with four homers and 24 RBIs.

Anna Metsker, Norwayne, jr.

Helped anchor a surprise WCAL title team with a .410 average from the No. 3 spot in the batting order. She led the team with 29 RBIs and scored 23 runs.

Daylie Rickard, Northwestern, sr.

Rickard flashed of the area’s best bats, hitting .573 and led her team with 41 RBIs. Inside the circle, she was solid as well with a 10-1 record, 3.17 ERA and 75 strikeouts.

Joey Reynolds, Dalton, sr.

The senior led the area in hitting all year and finished with one of the area’s best-ever single-season averages, hitting .616. She scored 29 runs and drove in 20. ... Div. III second-team All-State

Lexi Vazquez, Dalton, sr.

Consistently one of the area’s best bats, Vazquez cracked the softball at a .516 clip and drove in a team-high 25 runs.
