The Debate Devolved Into Trump And Biden Bickering About Golf

Former President Donald Trump appeared to get under President Joe Biden’s skin at the very end of Thursday night’s debate as he discussed his golf game with his signature braggadocio.

Both candidates were asked by CNN’s team of moderators, Dana Bash and Jake Tapper, to address their advanced age, given that they were asking to be elected for a four-year term.

Trump responded by saying he was in “very good health” — apparently evidenced by his golf game.

To win at golf, Trump said, “You have to be quite smart, and you have to hit the ball a long way.”

“He challenged me to a golf match. He can’t hit a ball 50 yards,” Trump said of Biden.

The president laughed at his podium.

Instead of letting the subject drop, Biden dug in, saying, “Look, I’d be happy to have a driving contest with him.”

“I got my handicap when I was vice president down to a six,” he added.

“By the way, I told you before, I’m happy to play golf if you carry your own bag. Think you can do it?” Biden asked.

Trump said Biden’s handicap assertion was “the biggest lie of all.”

Biden started to hit back as Trump said, “I’ve seen you swing,” but the moderators stepped in to refocus the conversation.

“Let’s not act like children,” Trump said.

“You are a child,” Biden replied.
