Disabled Man's Cat Begs Him To Get in Wheelchair So He Can Snuggle on His Lap

I first got cats a little over four years ago. Prior to this, I had little to not experience with the feline species, and so there was definitely a period of adjustment as I accustomed myself to their unique behavioral quicksand ways of expressing themselves. One of the things I found most intriguing about cat behavior was their innate sense of scheduling. I could set my clocks to their inner knowledge of when it was meal time, morning nap time, evening lap time, early-mid-afternoon nap time, and—of course—lap-sitting time.

Yes, lap-sitting time. Because there were particular hours of the day, I learned, that the cats had come to expect cuddles. And not just any cuddles—cuddles that took place in specific rooms and on designated pieces of furniture in said rooms. We could not cuddle on my bed. Oh no, only cuddles on the living rom love seat would suffice. And if I wasn’t there at the appropriate time, they would complain to management (also me). Loudly.

The cat in this video also has a schedule to keep, and it involves snuggling on the lap of his human dad, actor Joseph Kibler, who has a wheelchair but apparently isn’t sitting in it when the cat thinks he ought to. How dare!

Toulouse is a Maine Coon cat, which are known to be among the chattiest of cat breeds, and he has no compunction about speaking up when things are not arranged precisely to his liking. In this case, he wanted his owner to sit down on the wheelchair so he could get on his lap and receive affection. And you know what they say about cats in the house—they are the ones in charge and we are but their humble servants.

And sure enough, as soon as his dad sits down and lets Toulouse hop in his lap, he gets quiet, as his issue was totally resolved. Too funny!

“His throne don’t feel right without his king on it,” says someone in the comments.

It’s possible that Toulouse the cat is named for the famous painter, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, who was also disabled due to injuries and possible congenital ailments that kept his legs from growing.

The Personality of Maine Coon Cats

Maine Coon cats are a particularly large breed of cat, and they are pried not only for their size, but also their winning personality—their intelligence, curiosity, and supposedly dog-like playfulness. This Maine Coon certainly has strong opinions about where he’d like to be sitting, and isn’t afraid to speak up about it. In other videos, Kibler demonstrates that Toulouse’s favorite resting spot is always on the man’s lap in the wheelchair, possibly because he gets the benefit of lap-sitting as well as being able to move freely around the apartment. It’s like having your very own palanquin.

Cats and Schedules

All he knows is that he barely gets in the door on any given day before Toulouse insists on hopping into his lap.

I understand. After all, I have a cat like that too—only it’s not my lap she wants to get in. Instead, she sits but he door every afternoon for my daughter to get home, then cries until she sits down and lets the cat jump on her.

Cats, man, I tell you.
