There are so many stereotypes about shelter dogs that it's almost hard to keep up, but the reality is that you'll find dogs of all kinds in your local shelter. True, some dog breeds are statistically more likely to end up in the shelter, but the sad truth is that any dog could find themselves in need of help.

That's exactly what happened to this senior Black Labrador Retriever, Thor, who's been waiting patiently at Humane Society Pike's Peak in Colorado for a month. This sweet and 'distinguished gentleman' is capturing hearts left and right on TikTok after his August 22 video gained attention from viewers, but he's yet to find his forever home. With a sweet, sugar-dusted face like his, though, it's only a matter of time!

OMG--Thor has stolen my heart! He looks like the gentlest soul on planet Earth, and he's going to make his forever person incredibly happy. He could be a calm, affectionate dog for an older person, or he could be a wonderful cuddle buddy for an individual who works from home. With his easygoing attitude, the opportunities are endless!

"He looks like such a perfect mellow gentleman," gushed one commenter named Mindy. "Hope his perfect family finds him soon." So do I! No dog deserves to wait long in an animal shelter, but it's especially heartbreaking to see older dogs spending their golden years in a kennel. They should be lounging in the sunshine instead!

Fortunately, TikTok stars like this Black Lab boy may be more likely to get adopted. Sweet videos tend to get the attention of the right people, and the comments on this video are the perfect proof. There are lots of folks who are asking questions about Thor's location and demeanor--now all that's left is for one of them to visit the Colorado shelter and adopt him!

Adopting Senior Dogs

As you'll see in many animal shelters, senior rescue dogs tend to wait a long time before finding a forever home. That's because most dog adopters are looking for a puppy or young adult dog instead of a sugar-faced friend. Most often, adopters don't want to take on the extra responsibilities of having a senior dog right away, and they want to have as many years with their dog as possible. This is understandable, but once you know the love of a senior dog, you'll be able to see both sides of the equation!

Senior dogs like Thor are some of the most loving and easygoing dogs you'll ever meet, and they deserve to spend their golden years in the lap of luxury. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that Thor finds his forever home soon!
