There's no telling how big your baby will be. And that goes for animals too! Sometimes they just come out bigger than expected. Like a donkey foal who was so big that people online thought it was almost as big as its adult mother.

They grow up fast, don't they? And that's putting it lightly, after a video online revealed just how large the baby donkey was.

Its owner, @kdawgyuh, shared a snippet of the mini donkey foal chilling with its mother. Despite its large size, it's important to remember that the donkey is still an infant.

"Good morning! Aww, she's so pretty," the owner said from behind the camera. "Good job, honey. She's perfect."

Meanwhile, mama donkey was standing protectively over her baby. The maternal instincts were strong.

"You weren't due for another three weeks!" the woman added. "We're so happy you're here."

The foal was so calm. She even let the human give her some pets on the head — what a sweetie.

People in the comments section all had to agree — the foal was so big. "She’s Precious!!! Where did momma hide her??? She’s almost as big as she is!!!" exclaimed one woman. "Three weeks they would’ve been the same size!" another person exclaimed. "Mom said 'three more weeks and she will be bigger than me,'" someone else joked. "Sooooo is baby extremely big or mama extremely small cause newborns shouldn't be the same size as its mama!!!" someone else wondered.

How Big Are Donkey Foals?

So how big are donkey foals supposed to be anyway? That's a great question.

Female donkeys carry their babies for about 12 months. And when the baby is born they can weigh anywhere from 19 to 30 pounds. Even more impressively, foals can stand and nurse from their mothers within 30 minutes of birth.

How big foals will get depends on how they are bred. There are three major ways that donkeys are distinguished; wild, feral, and domesticated. Domesticated donkeys tend to be the smallest of the three, but even they can vary in size depending on how they are bred. On average, domesticated donkeys can weigh anywhere from 400 to 500 lbs. at full size and measure around 36 to 48 inches from hoof to shoulder.

Wild donkeys are larger at 49 inches from hoof to shoulder and can reach up to 550 lbs. Of course there are also mini donkeys which may only grow to be 36 inches and usually weigh less than 300 lbs.

This is all to say that there are lots of factors that play into the size of a donkey baby, but what's very clear is that this little one is so darn cute.
