Eagles star WR A.J. Brown expects to miss 'a couple weeks' with hamstring injury

A.J. Brown's hamstring injury is going to keep him out for more than just a single game.

The Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver told ESPN on Monday night during Philadelphia's stunning 22-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons that he expects to be out for "a couple weeks" with the injury.

It's unclear how long Brown will be out, or if the Eagles are considering placing him on injured reserve.

Brown first appeared on the Eagles’ injury report Friday after his hamstring acted up in practice. He then missed Saturday’s practice, and the team officially ruled him out of Monday night’s game in Philadelphia on Sunday.

Brown had 1,456 receiving yards last season, which marked his second consecutive campaign with at least 1,400 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns. The 27-year-old signed a three-year, $96 million contract extension with the team earlier this year. That deal, which briefly made him the highest paid wide receiver in the league, will keep him in Philadelphia through the 2029 season.

Brown shined for the Eagles in their season opener against the Green Bay Packers in Brazil last week. He had a team-high 119 receiving yards and a touchdown on five catches in the 34-29 win.

With Brown sidelined, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will likely turn more toward DeVonta Smith in his absence. Smith, who had 84 yards on seven catches in Philly's win over the Packers, scored Philadelphia's first touchdown on Monday night on a 7-yard catch in the second quarter. Smith finished with 76 yards on seven catches in the loss.

The Falcons, thanks to a wild game-winning drive from Kirk Cousins, stunned the Eagles to grab the one-point win on Monday night. Cousins led the Falcons 70 yards down the field in just 65 seconds before hitting Drake London for a 7-yard touchdown pass to seal the comeback win, which moved both teams to 1-1 on the season.

The Eagles will take on the New Orleans Saints next week in Louisiana.
