Talking to Scott Mills on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds about the gig – which is also his first time performing at the festival – John said: "It’s the first time I’ve been asked… it’s come at the right time, I’m a great believer in serendipity and fate and it’s the most wonderful way to sign off in England."

John also teased some special guests for the farewell show but said: "I can’t tell you who they are."

The Tiny Dancer singer also said that he wasn't sure what was next but after the tour finishes, it will definitely be the end of his live performing: "Everything is up in the air… boys go back to school… Piano won’t go away forever… it’ll be very sporadic, I really don’t want to tour again… I’m not going back to Vegas."

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour has been occurring since 2018 but there have been long breaks due to the Covid-19 pandemic and an injury suffered by John in 2021.

The tour has so far earned $817.9 million at the box office making it the highest grossing tour in history, surpassing Ed Sheeran's previous record of $776.2 million.

After his final UK gig in June, John will continue on to Europe and play France, Switzerland and Denmark before wrapping up in Sweden on 8 July.

Though John will be wrapping up his touring, he is already set to appear on Dolly Parton's new album. He will perform a duet of his hit Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me alongside the country legend on her upcoming album Rockstar.
