A Jacksonville man became the 148th $1 million prize winner in the Florida Lottery's 500X The Cash scratch-off game that launched Feb. 28, 2022, the Lottery announced.

Franklin E. Winberry Sr., 68, bought his $50 ticket at J and J Food Store at 632 Beach Blvd. and chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $820,000, according to the Lottery. Winberry claimed his winnings on Feb. 16, a new state law allows for a 90-day grace period to release winners' names.

At $25 million, the $50 game features the largest top prize offered on a Florida scratch-off ticket and the best odds to become an instant millionaire. There are only two top prizes, though, and one has been accounted for.

But the next prize isn't too shabby at $1 million. There are 160 of them and 12 still left, according to the Lottery website.
