Columbus Crew introduces 'Hell is Real Pig Roast' prior to FC Cincinnati rivalry game

Updated

The festivities leading up to the Columbus Crew's "Hell is Real" rivalry game with FC Cincinnati will feature a new addition this year.

Prior to the Crew's sold-out matchup against FC Cincinnati Sunday night, Columbus will host the inaugural "Hell is Real Pig Roast" at Historic Crew Stadium starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday. That event is a warm-up act to Crew 2's "Heck is Plausible" game against FC Cincinnati 2 at 6 p.m.

For $15, fans at the pig roast will get a pulled pork sandwich, two sides, water and access to pregame entertainment. Admission to the development team program's game is free.

In May, the Capybaras' won their road game against FC Cincinnati 2 by a score of 1-0. The last time Crew 2 hosted Cincinnati was this past September, and Columbus won 9-0.

The Crew's pig roast is a nod toward Cincinnati being known as "Porkopolis," given its history as a hub for the pork and meat-packing industry.

“We couldn’t think of a better way to prepare for our Hell is Real Derby than with our fans and supporters over a good old fashioned pig roast,” President of Business Operations Kristin Bernert said in a statement. “A special part of the in-state rivalry is that Hell is Real and Heck is Plausible were inspired by our supporters, and we don’t mind dialing the rivalry up a notch.”

The Crew will take on FC Cincinnati at Lower.com Field Sunday at 7:30 p.m., and the contest will be shown on Fox Sports 1.
