Coronation Street New Year spoilers: Bethany returns, Damon and Harvey make comebacks
There are three major returns to Coronation Street to begin 2024. First, we have Bethany Platt, who’s back in Weatherfield – and in the arms of Daniel. And there looks to be ominous times ahead when both Damon and Harvey resurface – just what do they have planned?
For all this and the rest of the Corrie drama, read on for spoilers covering 31 December 2023 to 5 January 2024.
Bethany is back
Bethany Platt is the big returnee, her reappearance set to leave Daniel’s face lighting up when he spots her in the neighbourhood on New Year’s Eve. The trouble is, this reunion comes just as Jenny is urging Daisy to go and find Daniel and patch things up with a New Year’s kiss.

Unfortunately for Daisy, she’s set to be left feeling humiliated and tells Jenny that Daniel seems to be turning his attention to his old flame. The Platts, meanwhile, are celebrating Bethany’s return over at No 8. But they find their jubilation to be short-lived when Jenny reveals to them that Bethany slept with Daniel the previous evening – news that leaves Gail, David and Sarah stunned.
A panicked Adam is abducted – is Damon responsible?
The new year is set to start on an unsettling note for Adam, who suffers a panic attack. But his anxiety would be sure to spike further if he knew that Damon is back and observing his and Sarah’s actions from across the Street.
Scenes to be shown on New Year’s Day will then see Adam heading for his office, only for his movements to be tracked by a guy in a van. A shock cliffhanger will then see a horrified Adam tied up in the back of this vehicle. Will he be able to escape?
Evil Harvey also returns
Damon will also be seen offering Ed a job renovating a bar. But, after realising who he is, Bethany inerrupts the conversation by labelling Damon a homewrecker.
Damon, though, is distracted by a phone call and hurries away – his destination being the prison visiting room, where he’s seen facing his brother Harvey. But what does Harvey want from his sibling?
Grand reopening for the Rovers
On New Year’s Eve, the likes of Jenny, Daisy, Sean, Glenda and Gemma all make their way to the Rovers, armed with boxes of booze.
As the locals muck in with the preparations and Gary hangs Betty’s picture back on the wall, Jenny and Daisy can’t help but feel proud of what they’ve achieved. In readiness for the evening ahead, Jenny, Glenda, Sean and Gemma compare bad taste outfits they’ve prepped – but one resident is set to be left decidedly unimpressed by their efforts…
Paul is left disappointed
Summer has a surprise for Paul: her uni lecturer has offered to take him for a spin in his motorbike’s sidecar. But when Dewey turns up, there’s no sidecar and an attempt at getting Paul to ride pillion fails. The result? Paul is just left feeling humiliated.
To cheer Paul up, Billy then suggests they go away on holiday, but later finds that the cost of insurance is extortionate due to Paul’s condition. So, because of the aborted plan, Gemma and David treat Paul to jugs of sangria.
After a raucous afternoon, Paul insists that David head home as Moses is due any minute. But when Paul is kept waiting, he finds himself growing increasingly desperate for the toilet and drgas himself out of his wheelchair – crashing to the floor in the process…
