Eamonn Holmes has said he is "proud to have thrown Phillip Schofield under the bus", slamming his former This Morning co-star's tell-all episode of Cast Away.

Schofield is set to make his return to TV tonight in the Channel 5 show where he has filmed his thoughts about his exit from ITV, but Holmes told GB News that he believed the ex-presenter was "where he deserves to be".

Holmes, who used to present This Morning with his ex Ruth Langsford on Fridays, has made no secret of his animosity with former lead hosts Schofield and Holly Willoughby since leaving ITV and did not hold back in his Monday breakfast show as he discussed Cast Away.

Eamonn Holmes has spoken out against his former This Morning colleague Phillip Schofield once again, saying he has no regrets over turning his back on the presenter.

Holmes and his ex Ruth Langsford were the long-running Friday hosts of the ITV daytime show, which Schofield and Holly Willoughby presented for the rest of the week but were replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary in 2021. Since then, Holmes has been outspoken about his dislike of Schofield and Willoughby.

During his GB News breakfast show on Monday, his co-star Isabel Webster read out quotes from Schofield's episode of Cast Away, due to air tonight, in which he claims he was thrown under the bus by colleagues at ITV.

Holmes cut in: "Well look, if I'm one of the people who threw him under the bus, I'm very proud to have done it..."

Holmes also made claims that Schofield was "addicted" to being in the spotlight. He went onto add: "This man is addicted to fame, absolutely addicted to fame."

Holmes and Schofield have a lot of history together, having worked on ITV's This Morning since 2006 when the Northern Irish presenter joined the show. They were never good friends but remained amicable on-screen until one moment that changed that forever.

Holmes' now estranged wife Ruth Langsford made a complaint about Schofield after he brutally cut off her during a segment on This Morning where she was teasing what was to come on Loose Women in 2019. He said: "Guys, we're going to have to jump in there and stop you I'm afraid because we're a bit tight for time at this end. Thank you, Ruth."

In the moment, Langsford responded to say: "Well I only had about two more words to say." This moment was a turning point in Holmes' working relationship with Schofield. Later in 2022, Holmes addressed the incident saying that his then-wife wasn't the only person to be snubbed by Schofield.

He told the Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine in February 2022: "Phillip is renowned for snubbing people. He’s very passive-aggressive. It’s up to Ruth to say how she felt, but I was feeling hurt for her. No one would have snubbed me like that... I don't go for presenters who think they have a special privilege or aura or influence."

Last week, Schofield revealed he would be making a TV comeback in Channel 5's Cast Away, filmed on a secluded island off the coast of Madagascar. It marked his first TV job since the former ITV star resigned from This Morning in May 2023 when his affair with a younger male colleague came to light.

Schofield said: "This is most definitely a first for me and the only thing I felt compelled to do. It appealed to me on so many levels. I’ve recently had a lot of time to think about my life, what went right and what went wrong, but I’ve always had the safe arms of friends and family wrapped around me.

"This time it’s just me, no ‘phone, no comforts, no crew and only lip balm as a luxury. I’m looking forward to exploring the island, trying to tie knots to secure my shelter and foraging and fending for myself in the wild… with no help. Maybe I’ll be Robinson Crusoe, or maybe I’ll just be Tom Hank’s Wilson and quietly drift off into the wild blue yonder!!"

The show, which will see the island hit by a storm during filming, airs tonight, 30 September at 9pm on Channel 5.

Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel airs on GB News at 6am on weekdays.
