Eleanor Tomlinson confesses embarrassing Star Wars blunder

Eleanor Tomlinson has confessed her embarrassing encounter with one of Star Wars biggest stars.

The star of Poldark and BBC sitcom The Outlaws shared her awkward anecdote on the The One Show where she was a guest alongside Dafne Keen and Amandla Stenberg, stars of Disney+'s news Star Wars TV series The Acolyte.

Tomlinson, 32, admitted she had never seen Star Wars and revealed she had been left mortified when she failed to recognise one of the franchises most famous stars at an audition.

One Day star Tomlinson was a guest on the show alongside Stephen Merchant to discuss the third series of BBC sitcom The Outlaws about a group of strangers who meet doing community service, in which she stars.

They were joined on the sofa by Keen and Stenberg and host Alex Jones asked Tomlinson to recount her awkward encounter. Tomlinson revealed: "I haven't seen Star Wars. I did a game recently, a motion-capture game.

"And I didn't see the call sheet before I went in so I didn't know who was going to be there and I'm sitting in the Green Room with this very, very charming actor and we start talking and he says, 'Have you done this before?' and I said, 'No, have you?'

"And he's like, 'Yeah, yeah, I've done quite a lot of motion capture, I've done quite a lot of CGI.' And I was like, 'Oh what have you done?' And he said, 'Darling. I'm Mark Hamill.' And I was like, 'Hi, it's really nice to meet you.' "

Keen and Stenberg were shocked by her admission. Stenberg gasped: "No way!" And Keen exclaimed: "That's bad! That's very brave of you by the way."

Mark Hamill, 72, plays Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise.

Keen revealed she had to have a special short lightsaber made for her in The Acolyte, and she couldn't handle the regular sized ones.

The 19-year-old British-Spanish star revealed: "I had an extra short one 'cause I am 5ft 2in, which is was not cool. I got given a normal 'saber and I kept hitting the ground. It was really embarrassing. I did not look cool, but Jonas looked sick and he had the suit on and I got to Yeah, he did."

Stephen Merchant took the opportunity of appearing on the show to apologise to his parents for cutting them out of the latest series of The Outlaws.

The sitcom is set in Bristol, where Merchant grew up and his parents his parents actually worked as community payback supervisors, helping to inspire the idea for the show. He gave his mother and father a cameo role in the new series, but revealed on The One Show that he has cut them out.

He said: "I did give them a couple of lies in this series, and I'd like to take this opportunity now, mum and dad, if you're watching, I've had to cut the dialogue. I'm sorry. You're still on screen, your faces are seen, but people won't hear your voices.

"I thought it was best to say it now and not raise it at the Christmas dinner table."

The Outlaws begins on BBC One at 9pm on Thursday 30 May.

The Acolyte comes to Disney+ on Wednesday, 5 June.

The One Show airs on BBC One at 7pm Monday to Friday.
