Viewers said their hearts were "breaking" as Freddy Brazier opened up about losing his mum Jade Goody and pondered whether she could be 'guiding' him on Celebrity Race Across the World.

Big Brother star Goody lost her battle with cervical cancer in March 2009, when Freddy was just four. He is now tackling the epic race with his dad Jeff Brazier and the latest episode of the BBC show on 28 August saw them paying tribute to Goody on Mother's Day.

The pair are travelling from Brazil to Chile and stopped to watch the sunset together on the special day, which is also the anniversary of Goody's death.

In the episode, Jeff and Freddy were seen discussing how they wanted to mark the day. They settled on taking in the sunset by the water in Salvador and as they set off, Freddy said: "Maybe mum is putting things in place and pushing us in the direction of where we need to go."

"That’s a lovely idea," his dad replied.

Freddy said it was "really hard" to have lost his mum on Mother's Day. He said in a piece to camera: "A lot of my memories that I have of my mum have come from watching a documentary, YouTube clips, newspapers, they are not my memories. I don’t really remember being held. I don’t really remember being held by my mum.

"If I had more memories of her, it would have made it a whole lot harder for me. But I think I would have rather that than not really remember the things that I had done with my mum. It's just life really and I've kind of accepted that."

"I don't really like showing my emotions," he said. "I don't even really speak to my dad much about my mum either. I just avoid it. I prefer to bottle it up.”

"I don't want to feel like I'm a burden to them," he added.

Viewers were in tears as Freddy spoke, with many posting messages on X commenting on the emotional scenes. "Freddy is making me cry!!" one person said, as another remarked: "Made me cry, after losing a parent as a teenager I can resonate with him so much."

Others said they were sure that Goody would be "proud" of Freddy, as well as of her other son Bobby.

"Wow!" said one. "Freddie talking about his mum tonight is heartbreaking. You can see the hurt in his eyes knowing he doesn’t remember much but wishing he has so many more years with her. Gosh he would be doing his mum so proud right now."

The Braziers are up against Kelly Brook and her husband Jeremy Parisi, cousins Kola Bokinni and Mary Ellen and couple Sam Vaughan and Scott Mills in the race. And some viewers have said they are desperate to see them win, partly for Goody.

One fan posted: "I had met Jade Goody, twice. She was lovely. She would be so proud of Jeff and Freddy. I hope they both win this."

"Just how bloody proud would Jade Goody be of her boys," someone else said. "C’mon Jack and Freddy win it for her."

Celebrity Race Across the World airs on Wednesdays on BBC One, and streams on BBC iPlayer.
