Jude Law exclusive helps boost Sunday Mirror sales

The Sunday Mirror's exclusive revelations of Jude Law's infidelity helped boost sales of the paper by more than 4% last month, adding more than 60,000 to its weekly sales figure.

The Sunday Mirror was one of the top performers in a strong Sunday newspaper market last month, according to the latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations.

Sales of all Britain's national Sunday papers except the Sunday Express posted strong sales increases, helped by news and analysis of the London bombings and DVD and CD giveaways.

But the Sunday Mirror was one of the strongest, with sales up 4.3% to 1,548,851 on the back of its exclusive interview with Law's former nanny, published on July 17 and followed up around the world.

The News of the World and the People also enjoyed strong sales rises, with sales of the People up by nearly 7% at 976,194 and sales of the News of the World up 3.9% at 3,701,988.

The Sunday Express and the Business were the only British national Sunday newspapers to suffer circulation declines, with the Sunday Express down nearly 5% month on month to 887,401. Figures for the Mail on Sunday were up, but by less than 1% at 2,261,511.

All the national Sunday broadsheets enjoyed equally modest increases in their monthly sales.

The Sunday Telegraph was up 1.2% at 682,900, the Sunday Times rose 1% to 1,338,616, and the Observer also rose by 1%, to 445,378.

The Independent on Sunday, which will next month relaunch in fully tabloid format, had the smallest rise, up by 0.3% at 206,689.
