Kate Garraway remembers late husband Derek on wedding anniversary
Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has remembered her late husband Derek Draper in an Instagram post shared on their wedding anniversary.
Derek contracted COVID-19 in the early days of the pandemic and was in intensive care for a long time. He required round-the-clock care when he was allowed to go home, and eventually passed away in February this year.
Today (September 10), Kate uploaded a video to her Instagram and spoke about reminiscing over old memories, and she asked viewers to vote for Kate Garraway: Derek's Story in the Authored Documentary category at the National Television Awards.

"So it's our wedding anniversary today & feeling super emotional but also so grateful to all that Derek brought into my life," she wrote in the caption. "Leaning into the #grief, by re reading his old cards to me & also watching the doc #dereksstory - reminding myself of how he fought to the end to get back more of his life & for change for others.
"It's the #officialntas tomorrow & it will be so hard to go without him with us - but Darcey, Bill & I WILL go - to celebrate his life, the message he wanted heard & to honour all the hard work of doctors nurses & carers everywhere - paid & unpaid for the incredible work they do every day."

In the video, Kate explained that it has been 20 years since the couple got married, and it was dates like this when she feels "a punch", but as this specific date is so personal, she said she felt quite "sorry for myself".
She added that the lack of his presence felt like "a roaring train", but she was trying to feel grateful for all the memories with Derek and all of the support they had received over the years.
The National Television Awards airs today (September 11) on ITV1.
