Michael Mosley's life and achievements are being celebrated by the BBC with Just One Thing Day, which carries forward the late TV doctor's message of improving health and wellbeing with small changes.

The broadcaster and medic died last month aged 67 after going missing while on holiday on the Greek island of Symi and his widow, Dr Clare Bailey Mosley, has vowed to continue his work.

She spoke to BBC Radio 4's Today programme to launch Just One Thing Day on Friday, 12 July and said that her late husband "would have been gobsmacked" at the outpouring of affection for him.

Here's everything you need to know about Just One Thing Day, including who's supporting it.

Michael Mosley's incredible career in health broadcasting and journalism inspired countless fans to improve their health, whether through the 5:2 Diet and intermittent fasting, or making small changes to their physical fitness.

The BBC's day celebrating his life and work is named after his BBC Radio 4 podcast, where he featured some of the small and simple lifestyle changes that could have a dramatic effect on health.

It will see BBC TV and radio presenters challenged to take up a healthy habit or make a simple swap that will do them good, with the hope that listeners and viewers will continue to follow Mosley's advice, too.

Programmes across the channels will focus on Mosley's tips all day and presenters will share how he helped them to live healthier lives.

Mosley's widow Dr Clare Bailey Mosley is a GP and health columnist who worked with her husband many times over the years, including writing books together.

Despite her obvious devastation, she is supporting Just One Thing Day as she has said she wants to continue her husband's work improving the public's health.

Speaking to the Today programme, she said: "He would have been gobsmacked. He didn’t seek the limelight. He was quite shy, but loved what he did, and was very good at it."

Dr Bailey Mosley added of their four children: "I can’t tell you how much support they’ve given me and joy as well at really difficult times. And family and friends, and to be honest just I’m still kind of breath-taken by the response from people around the country, across the world, and it’s just extraordinary.

"He was quite a sort of quiet, humble man, and to have that sort of response is just extraordinary, and I hope we can find some really positive changes going forward."

She added: "The response – people really love him, you know … I’ve got a list of lovely quotes that people say, which are just so touching, and so caring.

"One of the main things was that people felt they really knew him, that they lived in his kitchen and knew what he was cooking. It was very sort of trusting and kind of weirdly intimate.

"It’s just been so uplifting, and I’m so grateful for that. And it’s just so incredible that he has made such a difference to people. I’m so proud of what he’s done."

Radio 4 kicked off the day by honouring their late station co-star with the moving words from his wife on how much his fans' support had meant to her.

The Today programme also featured anecdotes from people whose lives had been changed by Mosley's tips from podcast Just One Thing which ranged from diet swaps to ways of improving mental health.

Woman's Hour host Anita Rani also paid tribute to Mosley's effect on her life by talking about the benefits of exercise, while The Food Programme is showcasing former Just One Thing topics ranging from eating oily fish to the benefits of turmeric, and Front Row will celebrate how listening to music or playing an instrument can bring a sense of calm.

Over on BBC One, Morning Live's presenters took up the challenge of following Mosley's top tips - Rav Wilding began the day with a cold shower, Michelle Ackerley listened to some upbeat music, and Matt Allwright revealed that he is a regular intermittent faster as well as taking cold showers.

On The One Show, stars including Alan Carr and Nicky Campbell were seen paying tribute to Mosley.

Presenter Campbell said: "Whenever I saw him on telly I thought, I wish he was my doctor. " Comedian Carr said: "Whenever you saw Michael on the telly, you always left feeling a bit more positive and a bit more wise."

Mosley started out training as a doctor before he moved into broadcasting and spreading his knowledge of health through popular programmes and books.

He is credited with popularising the 5:2 Diet, a form of intermittent fasting that many people swear by for weight control and improving general health.

But Mosley was never afraid to use himself as a guinea pig too in testing out health tips and trends - he tried out some unusual methods to combat his own insomnia for one documentary, swallowed a tape worm for another show, and tested out many an innovative health food or exercise regime.

On TV, he was known for shows including Trust Me, I'm A Doctor, Inside the Human Body, Meet the Humans, Secrets of the Superagers, 21 Day Body Turnaround, and Lose a Stone in 21 Days.

His Just One Thing podcast for Radio 4 was hugely popular with listeners for its easy-to-follow and varied advice, presented in Mosley's encouraging, warm style.

Mosley was also a regular guest on other TV shows including Morning Live, The One Show and This Morning.
