Oasis reunion tickets live: Furious fans accuse Ticketmaster of upping prices as UK and Ireland shows sell out

Thousands of Oasis fans have been left empty-handed and frustrated after struggling to nab tickets to the group’s 2025 reunion tour.

Tickets went on sale at 9am on Saturday and were expected to be sold out in minutes, but instead many waited in online queues for up to 10 hours, only to be kicked off booking websites with “Error 503” messages appearing on their screens.

Just after 7pm, Oasis and Ticketmaster finally announced that tickets had sold out.

Some of those who did manage to make it through the queue to select tickets for Cardiff, Edinburgh, Dublin, London and Manchester found that the cost for general standing tickets had risen unexpectedly as a result of Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing policy, which saw the cost of tickets double in some cases.

For the Manchester shows, for example, a general admission standing ticket was expected to cost £150 but that price had risen to £355 under the dynamic pricing policy that reflects increased demand.

However, Oasis has warned against buying resale tickets at inflated prices with companies other than its promoter, saying those tickets will not be valid.

The British rock band announced their long-awaited reunion on Tuesday (27 August), with brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher set to join one another onstage for the first time since their split in 2009.

Will extra dates be added as Irish Oasis fans power through Dublin ticket supply?

08:00 , Barney Davis

Oasis fans be ready. There are already rumours swirling around more Oasis gigs in Ireland as Dublin shows became the first to officially sell out.

A showbiz source told the Irish Sun: “The demand in Ireland to see Oasis is absolutely massive.

“The tickets this morning will be snapped up in minutes and there will be thousands upon thousands left disappointed if it stayed at just the two.”

They added: “The Gallaghers love Ireland, the demand is there so it’s very likely to happen.

“And what is being examined is two extra concerts the following weekend to the two already announced.”

Hotels in Dublin charging thousands for hopeful

06:00 , Barney Davis

Once you have got to the front of the day long online queues and grabbed the pricy “in demand” standing room tickets you still have to find accommodation if you are travelling to catch Oasis.

But the manager of Irish rap group Kneecap has revealed that people looking for hotels on the Dublin leg at Croke Park are selling for more than £5,000 a night.

Ticketmaster explains surge in Oasis ‘in demand’ prices

04:00 , Barney Davis

Ticketmaster has explained how prices for ‘in-demand’ tickets are set as fans complained that some tickets had nearly doubled in price from the initial face value. Ticketmaster shared a link to their website explaining that ‘platinum’ or ‘in demand’ tickets are “market-based”.

“Promoters and artists set ticket prices. Prices can either be fixed or market-based,” it said. “Market-based tickets are labelled as ‘platinum’ or ‘in demand’.”

Calls for investigation into Ticketmaster

02:00 , Barney Davis

Dublin Fine Gael MEP Regina Doherty has called for an investigation into Ticketmaster by the Competition and Consumer Commission (CCPC) due to the pricing structure and advertising of the gigs.

“When ticket prices were advertised earlier this week, standing tickets in Croke Park were €86.50 plus booking fees, but when many people eventually got through the online queue this morning, they were faced with the exact same ticket at a price of €415.50,” she said.

“That’s not transparent advertising and certainly not fair to consumers.”

“The EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) has sections included specifically to ensure large platforms that control aspects of the digital economy don’t just make up their own rules that are unfair for consumers. I think Ticketmaster’s ‘in-demand’ pricing structure certainly needs investigating in this context.

“Every ticket for these gigs was always going to be ‘in-demand’ so slapping an extra label and €300 on some standing tickets is just extortionate.”

Ms Doherty said there is “more than enough evidence” in the aftermath of the Oasis sale to further investigate the pricing and advertising of larger gigs and added that she will be writing to the European Commission to ask them to examine their role at an EU level.

Dan Walker among the famous faces calling out Ticketmaster experience

Sunday 1 September 2024 00:05 , Ellie Muir

Zarah Sultana, the MP for Coventry South, 5 News presenter Dan Walker and Newsnight host Victoria Derbyshire all posted about trying to get tickets for Oasis’ reunion tour shows after they went on sale at 9am on Saturday.

Derbyshire wrote on X that she was in the online Ticketmaster queue, shortly after the sale began and said she was still there an hour later.

At about 11.23am, the 55-year-old BBC journalist, who occasionally hosts Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, appeared to question if anyone was getting through to purchases Oasis Live 25 passes.

She wrote: “Has anyone actually managed to get a ticket today yet?”

Former BBC Breakfast presenter Walker wrote: “There has got to be a fairer, simpler, more efficient way of selling tickets that isn’t so open to touts, scammers, resellers & bots #Oasis.

“In the queue, out of the queue, refresh / don’t refresh, wait in line, back of the line, accused of being a bot … timed out.”

Labour MP Ms Sultana shared screenshots from Ticketmaster’s website of her trying to get two passes for an Oasis show at London’s Wembley gig, before her session was “suspended” by the site.

Waterboys singer blasts Ticketmaster surge pricing

Saturday 31 August 2024 22:15 , Barney Davis

Mike Scott the lead singer of The Waterboys has blasted Ticketmaster’s “dynamic pricing” policy claiming his band would never use it as it is a “rip off against the spirit of rock’n’roll”.

Responding to a fan blasting Oasis tickets that were being sold for more than three times face value Mr Scott hit out at artists who “opt in” to dynamic pricing.

The Whole Of The Moon Singer posted on X: “My band won’t do dynamic pricing coz it’s a ripoff against the spirit of rock’n’roll. If it happens the artist has either agreed to it or is oblivious/out of it/doesn’t care/naive.”

He added: “[Boosted ticket prices] likely to be split between promoters & artist. They may have a % deal, common in the music industry, where the artist gets a guaranteed % of the ‘take’ once profit is assured and a certain amount of tickets are sold. The higher the prices, the greater the take.”

MP accuses Ticketmaster of fleecing fans with dynamic pricing adding more than £200 for ‘in demand’ tickets

Saturday 31 August 2024 17:14 , Barney Davis

An MP has spoken out on Ticketmaster’s “insulting” dynamic pricing which has seen Oasis fans finally get to the front of the queue charged £355 for a ticket originally priced at £135.

David Baines, Labour MP for St Helens posted on X: “After rightly criticising those who got presale tickets and then immediately tried to resell them for huge profits, it’s shocking to hear that @TicketmasterUK are now using ‘dynamic pricing’ to fleece fans & rake in the cash.

“Especially insulting for those who have queued all day.”

Ticketmaster currently tells those desperate fans of the Britpop icons patiently waiting in the queue: “Tickets for Oasis are still available, but inventory is now limited and not all ticket prices are available.”

While Ticketmaster, which is owned by Live Nation - an American entertainment company - usually gets the flak for increasing the prices, these pricing structures are usually only possible with the approval of the artists.

Taylor Swift reportedly didn’t take up the option of employing dynamic pricing for similar arena gigs in the UK.

Oasis fans have said trying to secure accessible tickets for Wembley an ‘impossible task'

Saturday 31 August 2024 14:20 , Ellie Muir

Fans requesting accessible tickets were advised to call a phone number for the Wembley concerts – but most have been left disappointed and frustrated.

Frances Mobbs said trying to get accessible tickets for her son was an “impossible task”.

Mrs Mobbs, from Norfolk, wanted to buy four tickets for her son Nick Mobbs, 41, his carer and two family members, for the concert on 26 July.

She sent through supporting documents for the accessible tickets and tried to call repeatedly for two hours when the phone line opened.

“My son has been a fan from day one, like millions of other people, of course, we’re trying to get tickets,” she said.

“I know I’m one of thousands and thousands and thousands of people, but there’s one dedicated phone line which is constantly engaged or saying we are unable to complete your call.

“I’ve been calling for two hours, I keep repeating and repeating.

“It’s frustrating, totally and utterly frustrating.”

One unsuccessful fan describes experience of being kicked-out of Ticketmaster queue

Saturday 31 August 2024 13:04 , Ellie Muir

Scott McLean, 28, logged into Ticketmaster at 7.30am on Saturday ahead of Irish sales opening at 8am.

He was in a queue of 20,000 for around 30 minutes before selecting four tickets to see the band’s show at Croke Park.

However, his browser began buffering for half an hour as he tried to make the purchase, prompting him to contact the Ticketmaster customer service account on X/Twitter, for advice.

“I followed their advice, cleared my cookies and cache on my browser and then it kicked me out completely. It just came up to that error screen after I followed their guidance,” McLean told the PA news agency.

“I had to rejoin the queue and I ended up about 700,000 places worse off after following their guidance.”

He said he feels “frustration and anger, not much more than that”, adding: “It’s just tickets for a concert after all, but I really wanted to go.”

“I sat in my living room, booted up Ticketmaster and I was about 5,000 in the queue. I was in the queue for about 40 minutes and managed to get two seated tickets for Wembley,” the barista told the PA news agency.

“I’m over the moon. I’ve been a fan of Oasis for about 10 years now, literally since I was 11 years old. Finally to be able to see them after they got me through as a teenager, it’s absolutely amazing and I’m so excited.”

She urged fans trying to buy tickets on Saturday to “keep going”.

Ticket reseller Viagogo defends listing inflated Oasis tickets after band’s warning

Saturday 31 August 2024 11:03 , Ellie Muir

Ticket reseller Viagogo has defended having Oasis tickets on sale for inflated prices as a “legal” practice, after the band warned concertgoers that passes bought outside of the official websites Ticketmaster and Twickets will be cancelled.

Cris Miller, Viagogo global managing director, told the PA news agency: “This is a dream event anticipated by millions worldwide.

“Our number-one tip for fans using secondary marketplaces is to continue to check prices outside of the first few weeks of sale.

“Demand will be at its peak when tickets hit the on-sale but it’s not a normal reflection of what tickets can and will go for. Just this summer tickets for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in the UK sold on our platform for as low as £80.

“In the case of Oasis – a highly anticipated event – we saw the primary sites struggling to manage demand even before the on-sale, and site crashes.

“We know fans are frustrated with the process and we know there is a better way. We continue to support industry collaboration to ensure the entire ticketing market works for fans and the live entertainment industry.

“Resale is legal in the UK and fans are always protected by our guarantee that they will receive their tickets in time for the event or their money back.”

Ticketmaster denies website crash as fans asked to continue waiting in line

Saturday 31 August 2024 10:12 , Roisin O'Connor

Oasis fans face a struggle to secure general sale tickets for the band's comeback tour as booking websites experienced outages.

Manchester-based promoter SJM Concerts' website Gigs and Tours faced issues even before tickets went on sale for the UK shows at 9am.

The site displayed messages saying: “Please bear with us. At the moment there are a lot of people on the site looking for tickets, so we have put a queuing system in place, which is completely normal.

“This page will refresh automatically and we'll get you where you want to be as soon as a space opens up. Thank you for your patience!”

Similar issues were encountered on the ticketmaster.ie page for the two shows at Dublin's Croke Park, which went on sale at 8am.

Instead of a page opening to buy tickets, an error number was displayed, which usually indicates a webpage is unable to handle any more connections.

The same issue was reported by some UK fans for ticketmaster.co.uk.

However, the page refreshed after a period to tell concertgoers that they were in queue, and “when it's your turn, you will automatically be able to browse events and shop for tickets”.

A spokeswoman for Ticketmaster denied the website had crashed, and advising that customers “to hold their place in line”.

A similar error was visible at gigsinscotland.com/artist/oasis as Scottish fans tried to get onto the website for the Edinburgh shows.

The tickets.seetickets.com/tour/oasis weblink, where you can book for several UK dates, also appeared unavailable.

A message said: “Our website is very busy! We have lots of people looking for tickets and you are being held on this page until a space becomes available. This page will refresh automatically.”

Some Oasis ticket hopefuls also reported being “suspended” by Ticketmaster UK and Ireland after it accused them of being “bots”.

Staff at the ticket-selling website replied on X, formerly Twitter, through its customer service account, saying: “Please make sure you are only using one tab, clear your cookies, and ensure you aren't using any VPN software on your device.”

It also shared a link with its guide on “how to improve your chances for getting popular tickets”.

The cheapest seats are Cardiff’s Principality Stadium shows, which will set you back £73, and Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium at £74, according to Manchester-based promoter SJM Concerts, which runs the website Gigs And Tours.

Before the announcement for UK shows, Irish promoters MCD said on its website that the price of both of the two Croke Park gigs in Dublin will start at 86.50 euros (£72.75) without booking fees.

In the band’s home city of Manchester, tickets start from £148.50, with only standing available alongside a number of hospitality and luxury packages.

Standing tickets at Wembley will cost fans £151.25, with the same tickets in Cardiff and Edinburgh slightly cheaper at £150 and £151 respectively.

Fans celebrate (and commiserate) after finding out if they were selected for the pre-sale ballot

Friday 30 August 2024 16:01 , Roisin O'Connor

Fans have now been sent their ticket ballot codes after being granted access to the Oasis pre-sale taking place today (30 August).

The lucky recipients of confirmation emails took to social media to celebrate, sharing notices that said the pre-sale would begin this evening from 7pm until 10pm BST.

“Get in man,” one fan shared on X/Twitter. “Thought it was a scam! Haha buzzing.”

“Felt Biblical to receive this,” another fan said, tagging Liam Gallagher, as one simply wrote: “THANK YOU LORD.”

Other fans weren’t so fortunate and shared their upset while warning others not to get “cocky” after getting through the ballot.

“No email for me, but the last few pre-sales I’ve had including for [Liam Gallagher] have been a total disaster, so don’t get cocky yet folks,” one wrote.
