Pop singer Kevin Jonas documents skin cancer treatment
Pop singer Kevin Jonas, a member of chart-topping trio the Jonas Brothers, has received treatment for skin cancer.
In an Instagram video, the 36-year-old singer, guitarist, actor and reality TV star said he had been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma.
“Yes, that is a actual little skin cancer guy that just started to grow,” he says, referring to a mole on his forehead. “And now, I have to get surgery to remove it.” He later showed himself driving home after the operation, saying: “Now it’s time to heal, heading home – make sure to get those moles checked, people.”
US organisation Skin Cancer Foundation wrote in reply: “Thank you for raising awareness. Early detection is key.”
Basal cell carcinoma is a form of skin cancer that begins in the upper layers of skin, and rarely travels to other parts of the body. It differs from the more serious form of skin cancer, melanoma.
Jonas shot to fame in the late 2000s alongside his brothers Joe and Nick, scoring US No 1 albums in 2008 and 2009 and a successful Disney Channel acting career. They went on hiatus in 2012, but their 2019 comeback album Happiness Begins took them back to No 1 in the US and also reached No 2 in the UK – it featured their biggest hit to date, Sucker.
Jonas is married with two children, and in 2022 he and his wife Danielle published a children’s book, There’s a Rock Concert in My Bedroom.
