Hollander has had a long and varied career in British TV and film as well as West End Theatre. And since the early 00s he has had his share of Hollywood roles.
Able to morph between comedy and drama, Hollander may not spring to mind as an A List hero, but his face will be known to many, whether it be as a bumbling fool or a dangerously charming villain.
We take a look through his memorable roles to date.
Absolutely Fabulous
Hollander attended the National Youth Theatre as a child and had a role in a BBC drama when he was just 14. During his time at Cambridge University he was a member of the famous Footlights comedy troupe, and so it was no surprise that he began his early career in comedy.
He appeared in two Ab Fab specials in 1996 as Saffy's wealthy Italian fiance who eventually jilted her at the alter for a catwalk model.
Gosford Park
Hollander's acting talent won him a role alongside a glittering array of British stars in the 2001 murder mystery film Gosford Park, from the creator of Downton Abbey.
As he so often does Hollander managed to steal scenes with his desperate performance as hapless Lt. Commander Anthony Meredith.
Pride and Prejudice
Jane Austen's Mr Collins is a comedy character created to make his audience cringe as he attempts to creep and condescend his way into Elizabeth Bennett's affections. Hollander was in his element in the role in Joe Wright's 2005 film adaptation opposite Keira Knightley and Dame Judi Dench as his benefactor Lady Catherine D Bourgh.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Hollander had his first big Hollywood role as the dastardly Lord Cutler Beckett in the Disney franchise starring Johnny Depp and went on to return in the 2007 sequel At World's End. This was perhaps the first time in the mainstream the world saw that Hollander's skills did not just lie in making us laugh - but demonstrated his strengths as a sinister Machiavellian.
Spectator column
In 2008 Hollander began writing a diary style column for The Spectator. His dry wit in print proved that his comedy skills were not just surface deep - he is just as funny unscripted.
In The Loop
Hollander was back to bumbling fool as the hapless politician being puppeteer by Peter Capaldi's Malcolm Tucker in Armando Ianucci's 2009 movie spin-off of his hit sitcom The Thick Of It.
Rev
Hollander was deservingly placed in a starring role in his very own sitcom opposite the nation's sweetheart Oliva Colman in 2010. As an inner-city vicar juggling his dwindling parish with urban issues this was a chance for Hollander to showcase his cutting wit.
Hanna
Hollander relished the chance to be blood-curdling evil as the sadistic former agent in this 2011 assassin thriller starring Saoirse Ronan. The critically acclaimed film was made into an Amazon TV series of the same name.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
Hollander played the Prime Minister of the UK opposite Tome Cruise in this blockbuster role in 2015.
The Night Manager
This six part BBC drama was a huge hit in 2016 thanks to a gripping plot and brilliant performances from Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman and Elizabeth Debicki. And also from Hollander as main villain Laurie's merciless henchman Corky. Yet another example of just how mean Hollander can be.
Bird Box
This 2018 post-apocalyptic thriller starring Sandra Bullock was a big hit for Netflix. Hollander appears as a terrifying and insane killer.
