Erie County's initial Top Performers for District 10's fall sports season: Aug. 21-26

First, the bad news.

Summer is almost over.

Now, the good news.

Top Performers, the Erie Times-News and GoErie.com feature that highlights Erie County's best varsity athletic performances, is back on a regular weekly basis throughout the 2023-24 academic year.

Here are some notable results for the first full week of action for District 10's fall sports season:

Football

Conner McChesney, Fort LeBoeuf
Conner McChesney, Fort LeBoeuf

Conner McChesney, Fort LeBoeuf: The quarterback for the Bison accounted for 277 yards in total offense and each of their four touchdowns when they won 29-0 at Conneaut.

J.J. Ganska, Mercyhurst Prep: A 19-yard touchdown highlighted his 203 rushing yards for the Lakers, who won 43-14 at Fairview.

Jeremiah Colon, Girard: His two touchdown runs, with the second scored in the overtime format, helped the YellowJackets to a dramatic 21-20 road victory vs. the rival Northwestern Wildcats.

Boys soccer

Mazmal Babiker, Erie High: He scored once and assisted twice for the Royals during their season-opening, 8-1 victory vs. the Sharpsville Blue Devils.

Santiago Camara, Mercyhurst Prep: The sophomore recorded a hat trick and assisted on a fourth goal for the Lakers en route to their 8-1 victory vs. Warren.

Cooper Robson, General McLane: His hat trick, plus an assist on a fourth goal, highlighted the Lancers’ 7-0 shutout at Hickory.

D-10 high school scoreboard: Football, golf, girls tennis cross country results

Boys golf

Trent Parkhurst, Union City: His round of 85 helped the Bears and Saegertown tie for first place in a Region 3 mega match at Guys Mills’ Mt. Hope Golf Course.

Greysen Rhodes, General McLane: His 78 was the lowest round for the Lancers, who won a Region 5 mega match at North East's Green Meadows Golf Course.

Leyton Hassenplug, North East: The Grapepickers' No. 1 golfer was the individual medalist (72) for a Region 5 mega match at Green Meadows Golf Course.

Anthony LaBoda, Fairview: The Tigers won a Region 5 mega match at Lawrence Park Golf Club with help from his individual co-medalist round of 77.

Connor Laird, Cathedral Prep: His round of 76 was low enough for the bronze medal at the Latrobe Invitational.

Girls soccer

Hannah Lindenberger, Fairview: She recorded a hat trick during the Tigers' 9-0 victory vs. Erie High.

Girls golf

Anna Swan, North East: Her round of even-par 72 left her the individual medalist for the Hickory Invitational at Hermitage's Tam O’Shanter Golf Course.

Girls tennis

Finleigh Handzel, Cathedral Prep: Her straight-sets win in No. 2 singles aided the Ramblers when they won 4-1 against Western Reserve of Ohio.

Paige Patsy, Cathedral Prep: The freshman, in her varsity debut, won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and also helped the Ramblers beat Mercyhurst Prep 5-0 in a Region 2 dual.

Vivian Liu, Fairview: Last season's District 10 Class 2A singles finalist won 6-0, 6-0 as the Tigers' No. 1 starter when they blanked Geneva (Ohio) 5-0. ... Earlier, she began her sophomore season with a 10-0 pro set victory that contributed to a 5-0 win over Neshannock in the teams’ season opener.

Lina Warrier, McDowell: She won a 10-0 pro set in the No. 1 singles match that also helped the Trojans beat Shaler 5-0.

Mackenzee Jewell, Fairview: Her 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the No. 3 singles match was the difference for the Tigers, who defeated Youngstown (Ohio) Ursuline 3-2 in a non-region dual.

Asheen Udgiri, McDowell: Her 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 3 singles match was vital for the Trojans when they won 3-2 at Perry (Ohio).

Ally McAdams, McDowell: The Trojans’ No. 2 singles starter rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 win during their 5-0 non-region dual victory vs. Boardman (Ohio) at Westwood Racquet Club.
