You always know when your pet is trying to pull one over on you. They aren't exactly masterminds at being sneaky. But one dog's hilarious tell when trying to trick her mama was glaringly obvious. Sadly, for the pup her mom didn't buy what she was selling one bit.

The dog was trying to pull the oldest trick in the book — the old fake paw injury.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Has she no shame? In the video that Kim Muhovics shared of her Frenchie and Chihuahua mix, it shows her pup totally giving herself up. The pup shifted her feet!

"When you're faking a paw injury, but forgot which foot was which," the text overlay reads.

You can say that again. The dog totally messed up!

"The fake shivers add to the acting," Muhovics joked in the caption.

Sadly it seems that the court of public opinion couldn't convict the poor thing on her crimes. "NO, what if both feet hurts and she just can't lift both at the same time? I'll represent her in court," vowed one commenter. "Me when I'm being overly dramatic hahaha," someone else joked. "We call our dog 'the pitiful creature' when he does this," another person shared. Another commenter had a similar experience with their own dog. "Our old dog pretended he couldn’t walk. I cried seeing him like that. He got X-rays and blood work. [One thousand dollars] later they said he was faking it," they wrote.

Why Do Dogs Fake Injuries?

There's a very simple answer why dogs are prone to faking injuries — they're manipulating you. We hate to say it like that, but it's sort of true.

When dogs want something, they'll do whatever it takes to get it. That means faking injuries so you'll give them attention, treats, or affection. They innately understand that when they're hurt we'll shower them with cuddles and kisses. Hence, them "magically" having a hurt leg.

Dogs can use these injuries to avoid things they don't want to do like going to the veterinarian or taking a bath too. They're so sneaky!

There are consistent signs that dogs are faking their injuries. For one, they may switch legs, just like this dog did. A second sign would be a lack of sensitivity in the injured area. Dogs might also conveniently forget their injury if they get distracted by a fun game or activity. But the number one way to tell if your dog is faking is if the injury goes away when it's time for them to do something they want to do, like eat or go for a walk.

It's a good thing we love dogs so much — it really takes the sting out of them lying to us so much.
