German Shorthaired Pointer's Full-Body Wiggles Show Just How Excited He Is to Meet His Newborn Sisters

Anyone who's had the privilege of adopting a dog knows that they're just as much a part of the family as any human relative. A family get-together just isn't complete without them, and home feels empty without four paws padding around. I've been there!

While many dogs are the missing puzzle piece that completes their families, others are there to help welcome new siblings into the world. Henry is one of those dogs, and he's been nothing but welcoming and affectionate to the twin baby girls who just joined his pack.

On August 16, Henry's parents posted a video of the sweet moment when the happy Pointer dog met his baby sisters for the very first time. It's safe to say that he's extremely excited!

Aww! This happy dog could hardly contain his excitement! He's already the most loving and affectionate big brother that these newborn babies could ask for, but his duties are only beginning. Just wait until they're old enough to play with him!

It'll be a while until they're old enough to interact with the family dog, but in the meantime, Henry can interact with them. In later videos from the proud new parents, the German Shorthaired Pointer can be seen standing guard over them while they sleep and gently sniffing them when they cry.

Even though he could hardly contain his tail wagging and happy hops when the girls first came home, Henry is excellent at following directions and listening to his parents. He checked in several times with Mom and Dad before sniffing the babies closely, which shows he's always thinking about obedience and manners. What a good boy! Hopefully, this kind spirit and gentle manner will rub off on the girls, too.

How to Introduce a Dog to a New Baby

While Henry's parents showed a precious moment that neither of them will soon forget, they didn't show the massive amounts of work and research it takes to successfully introduce a dog to a baby (or two). Preparation begins long before a new baby joins the family, but planning ahead can ensure everyone feels safe and happy throughout the interactions.

One helpful thing that you can do before the baby arrives is to play crying baby sounds for your dog. This will help desensitize them to any noise your newborn makes, though nothing can truly prepare them for the smells that are to come.

Let your family dog explore the nursery before their sibling is born so there will be as much familiarity as possible. Once the baby is born, ask family and friends to help your pup stay on a routine, with walks and meals at the same time each day.

However, before you have your dog and baby meet, bring home a piece of your little one's clothing from the hospital for your dog to sniff. When they finally meet, your dog will recognize your baby by its scent, and your first step of the introduction will already be a success!
