Golden Retrievers Visiting Texas A&M Have Fun Playtime with Canine Mascot

Every dog deserves the chance to relax and play without a worry in the world. That's why it's such a gift to see a rescue dog finally learning to trust and have fun, but it's equally as special to watch working dogs take a break, too. Whether it's a police K9 enjoying a pup cup or a canine mascot playing instead of performing, it's easy to see why dogs being dogs makes people smile.

Recently, a group of lucky cadets at Texas A&M got to learn this firsthand when a group of therapy Golden Retrievers came to visit the school's canine mascot, Miss Reveille. This Collie is the fifth Miss Reveille to hold the esteemed title, and she does plenty of important work around campus to make her predecessors proud. But she needs time to simply be a dog, too! Luckily, these Retrievers gave her the perfect opportunity.

How sweet! Miss Rev is having a blast with her new doggie friend around, but it looks like the Golden Retriever is a bit conflicted. They know they have their vest on for a job, which doesn't normally include play, but who can resist running around with a buddy?

"It's good to see that Miss Reveille gets to play, too," commented @amandarae777. I know what you mean! Dog mascots can spend a lot of time meeting fans and posing for pictures, but we don't always get to see this side of them. Luckily, many Texas A&M students get to shower her with love every day--she has more playmates and walking buddies than she knows what to do with!

The Golden Retrievers who got to distract The First Lady of Aggieland for the day are part of Bella's Buddies, a nonprofit that trains Golden Retrievers to be a part of the classroom and Veterans' Association environments. The therapy dogs assist with anything from grief counseling to confidence-building exercises, but at the end of the day they are dogs who deserve to play like dogs--just like Miss Rev!

Who Is Miss Reveille?

Unless you live in Texas or attend Texas A&M, you may not know who exactly Miss Reveille is. She's the school's official mascot and the highest-ranking member of the university's Corps of Cadets, but most students know her as the queen she is. As you can imagine, she's popular everywhere she goes (including to class with her cadets) and loves soaking up the attention.

But here's the kicker: she really is the queen bee on campus! What Miss Rev says goes, even in the classroom. If the dog barks during class time, the professor has to dismiss the class early! She's gotten on a lot of students' good sides for getting them out of class, and now she's won over her new Golden friends. No wonder she's the most popular girl in school!
