Groom Waiting For First Look at Bride Is Surprised By Dachshund Bridesmaid Instead

I remember my wedding day as being a bit of a blur. I woke up to the sound of the fire alarm going off in my hotel room, and in the process of grabbing my veil before heading downstairs, I tore it, which necessitated me sewing myself a new veil while getting my hair and makeup done. (It made for great photos, though!)

I don’t remember the “first look” between myself and my groom, but given that I’d helped him shop for his suit, I’m not sure it was a big deal after all. Still, if I’d thought about it, this surprise would have been pretty high on the list. Who doesn’t want to take a moment out of all the hubbub of a wedding day to cuddle with your beloved dog?

In this video, a groom awaiting his bride on their wedding day gets a very welcome surprise when he is instead greeted but he couple’s adorable Dachshund, Penny. He didn’t even realize his pup was invited to the ceremony until she came scurrying over to him in a fluffy white gown and veil costume instead of his expected bride.

Laughing, he took the jubilant dog up in his arms, where she showered him with kisses and he cuddled her right back. “I can’t believe she’s here,” he is recorded saying.

A Wedding Surprise

Don’t worry, though—after the little joke, the wedding festivities proceeded as planned, and Penny and her two newly-wedded parents had the day of their dreams.

“That is a woman who loves her husband so much that she gave him a special moment with their furbaby before her own first look,” said one person in comments. “That type of selflessness bodes well for a very loving, long, and happy marriage.”

“If i get married my little lady would definitely be included because she’s the most important little lady in my life,” says another potential groom.

Having Your Pet at Your Wedding

For many people, their “special day” would be far less special if they can’t share it with their beloved companion animals. Many people seek to incorporate their pets into the wedding festivities. Sometimes the results are adorable — like this one—and sometimes they are humorous, and even disastrous. Before you try to make sure Fido is present when you exchange vows, do an assessment on the type of ceremony you are having, and the kind of behavior you can reasonably expect from your animal.

If your pet is the quiet, well-behaved sort, used to crowds and accustomed, say, to sitting calmly under the table when you’re out at a cafe, he or she may indeed be perfectly at home attending your wedding ceremony, especially if it’s a casual affair or held outside. If they get nervous around other people or can’t be relied upon to behave, it might not be a good choice. Dogs tend to be suited for these kinds of things more than cats, for example, who cannot always be trusted to come when called.

And of course, double check with the venue where you are holding your ceremony to make sure what their pet policies are. You don’t want to deal with that headache on your wedding day.
