Located in Sultan, Washington, Pasado's Safe Haven investigates animal cruelty crimes day in and day out and provides sanctuary and rehabilitation to animals who have suffered from abuse and neglect. Their save haven is home to rescued dogs, cats, birds, and other farm animals like one of their newest family members, a llama named Shakira.

Shakira was rescued from neglect in May and since has gotten comfortable living in Pasado's beautiful pasture with some sheep for neighbors. Her personality has really shined through and it's apparent that she's very happy in her new home. Pasado's posted a video on Saturday, July 13th proving how happy she really is by showing her with a case of the zoomies!

Shakira is finally experiencing the simple things that bring joy to life! She has friends to run around with. She has room to express her joy by doing her cute zoomies. I've seen a lot of animals do zoomies, but llama zoomies are a first! Commenters all agreed that her zoomies were too cute and commenter @Sheila said what we were all thinking, "She looks so happy!"

More About Llamas

Pasado's shared in a separate video that there's a reason that Shakira is neighbors with her friends the sheep. They explained that llamas are herd protectors and that she will take the flock under her wing. I had no idea that llamas are livestock guardian animals, but it turns out they're really good at it.

When llamas are placed in the same field as sheep or goats, they stand guard and will protect the flock as if it were its offspring. Gelded males work out the best as a protector of the herd, however females like Shakira will get the job done, too.

Llamas will protect both sheep and goat herds from predators like foxes, coyotes, and even stray dogs. Llamas are big animals; they stand at 5 and a half feet to six feet tall and can weigh between 280–450 pounds. They use their height and weight to chase off any suspected threats by rearing onto their hind legs to scare off the intruder. They will also stomp as a warning or as an attack if the intruder doesn't leave.

And while Shakira has a job to do, she would also make a great pet. Llamas are known to be friendly, with a cheery disposition. They're easy to care for, have a laid-back temperament, and they are easily approachable. They can grow strong bounds with their humans and are protective of them as well. They're great with children and other family pets. They are even used as therapy animals. Who knew that llamas were so diverse!
