Harry Redknapp says Gareth Southgate didn't deserve Euros beer cup incident

Harry Redknapp has said Gareth Southgate didn't deserve to have angry football fans throwing beer cups at him at the Euros.
England manager Southgate has faced a lot of stick over his team’s performance in the tournament, and after they drew 0-0 with Slovenia in the group stage of the competition supporters apparently threw beer cups towards him.
However, former football manager Redknapp has insisted there is “no place for that”. He spoke out on Good Morning Britain on Thursday, after England beat the Netherlands 2-1 to secure a place in the final.

Presenter Kate Garraway noted that there had been a lot of criticism directed at Southgate and asked if it was justified, and Redknapp replied: “Well, I don't want to see people throwing beer and all that sort of stuff. That's, there's no place for that… You know, he doesn't deserve that.”
“But you are going to get criticised by the press and the media if things are not going well,” he went on. “The team weren't going well. We have to be truthful.
“We rode our luck. You know, we get a last second goal. We win on penalties against teams that are really very inferior to us. So we haven't exactly set the place alight during this tournament.”
Harry Redknapp says football decisions can be 'a gamble'
Presenter Ed Balls pondered how Southgate might have been feeling during the Netherlands game, talking about how he chose to take off Harry Kane and Phil Foden.
Redknapp said “you have to take chances”. “You live and die by your decisions when you're a football manager, and they certainly worked last night,” he added.
“You know, if it doesn't work you get criticised because you took Phil Foden off who was our best player. You'll get slaughtered for that if we'd have got beat. So yeah, it's a gamble.
"You know, you can sit there and do nothing, but you have to make decisions. That's what you do as a football manager. Everybody can second guess you. Everybody's watching the game. They've all got different opinions about what you should be doing.
"But at the end of it, you've got to make your own decisions. And that's what Gareth did. And last night they came off. So it was fantastic for him."
Redknapp said the win over the Netherlands was “fantastic”. “We’ve had lots of criticism throughout the tournament, we haven't played particularly well,” he said.
“But last night I thought the first half we were fantastic, played some great football. It got very close. Second half the game really was on a knife edge until Ollie Watkins came up and scored that fantastic goal. What a great finish.”
