Jason Manford has admitted his old kids are embarrassed of his comedy career.

Manford appeared on Loose Women to discuss his role in new Shakespearean parody musical Something Rotten! Manford, 43, revealed: "I was on holiday learning the songs, the kids have learnt all the songs because I'm driving to a water park with a soundtrack playing."

Judi Love asked if his kids were his biggest fans. Manford said: "Two of them are. I've lost the teens." Asked if he was an a embarrassment he admitted: "Yes, I think so." Manford went on: "When I did panto a couple of years ago there was a big poster near their school of me dressed as Captain Hook. And I said 'Have you told your friends that's your dad?' They were like, No, we just said it was a coincidence – same surname. They have that sort of embarrassment."

Manford has four children from his first marriages, 14-year-old twin daughters, a 13-year-old daughter and a son born in 2012. He married his second wife, Lucy Dyke in 2017 and they have two children together.

Being an embarrassment to his children has not put Manford off doing 'dad jokes' in front of them.

He said: "You do need dad jokes. I do all mine. I take a couple of my kids and a couple of neighbour's kids to school, and when I'm reversing out the driveway - this is a good one, you can have this, all parents can have this one. As I'm reversing out the driveway, I go, 'Oh, this takes me back.' I do it every day. That's the trick of the dad joke, do it every day."

Manford recently sparked a strong reaction on social media when shared a post on Instagram about parent guilt. And he revealed he does struggle with knowing what is the right thing to do as a parent. But he is not afraid to admit to his kids when he gets it wrong.

He said: "I talk about it a lot in my stand up because it's true. The problem with parenting is, of course, out of all the jobs that you do, it's the one job that you don't know if you've got it right, until it's too late to do anything about it.

"So you've just got to do everything with love and and and faith and and I think there's honesty. I think there's times where you do get things wrong as a parent. I'm from a background where my parents didn't apologise to children. So now I think we're a bit different. Now you do say to your kids, 'Look, I got that wrong there.' "

Something Rotten! is on at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Monday 5 August and Tuesday 6 August 2024.

Loose Women airs on ITV at 12.30pm on weekdays.
