Jimmy Fallon Highlights The Moment JD Vance Broke The 'First Rule Of Fake News'

Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) has broken the cardinal rule of planting fake news, Jimmy Fallon quipped on “The Tonight Show” Monday.

Donald Trump’s running mate admitted over the weekend that he is willing to “create stories” about issues to drive media attention. He made the stunning remark while defending himself for spreading a baseless lie that Haitian immigrants are eating the pets of Springfield, Ohio, residents.

“JD Vance admitted that he created the false claim about immigrants eating pets to create media attention,” Fallon said. “Trump was like, ‘Everyone knows the first rule of fake news is not admitting to fake news.’”

“But besides being overtly racist and making Trump look like a total fool at the debate, no harm done, right?” he added.

Trump, the Republican nominee, cited the lie at the presidential debate last week in a tangent that has drawn widespread ridicule.
