This new John Lewis dress is sure to sell out, here’s why I think it’s an autumn must-have

I absolutely love the style of this dress for autumn. (John Lewis / Yahoo Life UK)

Searching for that perfect autumn dress? I've found the one number you need this season that you'll get plenty of wear out of and feel great in. At £65, this new-in John Lewis dress is very reasonably-priced and on-trend for autumn 2024, featuring strokes of burgundy and earthy hues, as well as romantic bow and frill details.

The striking dress has been one of the standout pieces from the high street store's latest autumn collection and shoppers have already been quick to snap it up, so I was keen to get my hands on the expensive-looking number to see if it lived up to expectations.

This flowy floral number is the perfect transitional piece for autumn.

Made out of a flowy chiffon fabric, it feels very boho chic and elegant. Plus, it's super easy to chuck on as there’s no need to accessorise much due to the eye-catching pattern, so it's an easy fail-safe number you know you'll look great in with very little effort.

As a seventies girl, I’ve always embraced vintage styles and love the warm, autumnal colours that are intertwined throughout this bohemian-style dress.

It has pockets which I love in a dress and they are deep enough to chuck my essentials in so I can nip out without a handbag
The chiffon fabric is breathable and the floaty silhouette is super comfortable and flattering
It comes up large so I’d definitely recommend a size down, although being a loose style means it doesn't cling to any unwanted areas, which is also good news for larger-busted ladies
It's longer than expected so while it says midi dress I'm 5ft 3 and on me it was more of a maxi, best styled with a heeled shoe

At 5ft 3, it's a little long on me, but this was easily solved with a pair of platform trainers. (Yahoo Life UK)

Being 5ft 3, I can only wear this dress with a little extra elevation, which isn't too much of a problem. I paired the dress with black cowboy boots for coffee with a friend, which looked super chic and on-trend. However, I preferred wearing it with some platform trainers for a more comfy everyday look.

When it comes to choosing outerwear, I’m a huge fan of a denim jacket, particularly in autumn on days when it’s not cold enough for a thick coat I thought it paired nicely with the dress, and the easy shape means it would also look smart with a blazer for work.

When I wore the dress for a night out to the theatre I added a leather jacket and boots, along with a fedora black hat. I thought the harshness of the black made the colours of the dress more vibrant and nicely contrasted the feminine dress, adding a bit of edge.

👗 Everyday: Pair with trainers and a denim jacket
👗 Work: Pair with a blazer and boots
👗 Special occasion: Pair with heels and statement earrings

The dress feels so pretty and elegant that, for an evening out, it would also look elevated by simply pairing it with some statement earrings for a touch of glamour.

Unsurprisingly, five-star reviews are already trickling in, one shopper wrote “this is a beautiful dress to kick-start your autumn wardrobe” and I couldn’t agree more.

For just £65, this is a very versatile piece that you know you'll get great cost per wear out of. Not to mention, the dress looks much more expensive, from the ruffle trim to the dainty bows and high-quality billowing fabric, it can easily pass for one that costs in the hundreds. I have no doubt this dress will sell out quickly, so I'd snap it up now if it looks like something you want to try.
