Police searching for a missing 12-year-old girl from Kent have said she has now been ”safely located”.

A search was prompted after the girl was last seen in the town of Sittingbourne on Sunday afternoon. Security footage appeared to show her getting off a train in Canterbury later that evening.

Kent Police had appealed to members of the public to trace the schoolgirl after she was reported missing.

Here's what we know about the girl’s disappearance and the successful effort to find her.

The girl was seen at 4pm on Sunday 11 August around the high street area of Sittingbourne.

However, a CCTV image shared by police on Tuesday appeared to show the girl getting off a train at Canterbury East railway station shortly after 5pm that day.

Following a public appeal, Kent Police released a short statement confirming that she had been found.

The statement read: “A 12-year-old girl reported missing from Sittingbourne on Sunday 11 August 2024 has been safely located.

“Officers would like to thank everyone who assisted with the search.”
