Plans move ahead for Kwik Star convenience store in Norwalk off Highway 28

Kwik Star could be coming to Norwalk.

The city's Planning and Zoning Commission approved a site plan Sept. 25 for a proposed new Kwik Star convenience store and gas station at the southeast corner of Chatham Avenue and Highway 28. The plan is expected to go before City Council for final approval next month.

Plans for the future store include 20 fuel pumps and a car wash. If the city approves, officials hope to begin construction sometime in 2024.

Kwik Star is the Iowa name of the Wisconsin-based chain Kwik Trip. The company has over 800 locations in the Midwest, including about 10 in the Des Moines metro.

The rapidly expanding chain is known for its fried chicken, hot meals, baked goods, Karuba coffee and grocery store-style aisles. Norwalk's Kwik Star will be located in an area that is growing quickly, with new residential, commercial and recreational developments.
