I've been testing Simba's Hybrid Pillow for a month, and my sleep has never been better

Simba pillow review 2024 UK
I can promise you, you've never seen or experienced a pillow like it. (Simba / Yahoo Life UK)

For the past eight years, I’ve shamelessly slept on the same pillow. It has stuck by me through house shares, stints of living back at home, stretches in London, and now in my long-term rental. To this day, I can’t see myself throwing it away. However, I must admit, it has seen better days, and in recent months, I can’t say my sleep has been the best.

So, I recently decided to switch things up, which is where Simba's Hybrid Pillow comes in — a cool-touch pillow that helps regulate your body temperature as you sleep, is designed with customisable cushioned cubes for comfort, a mesh border for air circulation, and has over 24,000 five-star reviews.

So, in the interest of finding myself a new pillow that delivers on comfort and support, I've been testing this top-rated number for just over a month. And it's safe to say I owe my former memory foam pillow a proper goodbye.

💸 Reasons to buy

After sleeping with the same pillow for what seemed like forever, it definitely took me a few days before I got used to my new set-up. Simba's Hybrid Pillow was certainly plumper than I was used to, and a little softer, too. But, like anything, once I had given it a week or so and familiarised myself with the new pillow, the quality of my sleep drastically improved — so much so, I was actually looking forward to getting into bed at night.

Asides from this pillow's general plushness and comfortability, in my eyes, what makes it so attractive is how customisable it is. Designed with multiple layers, it's the knitted, inner compartment of the pillow that's to thank for this, with a zipper section that's packed with little foam cubes (otherwise known as Nanocubes) that you can remove or add to, to achieve the perfect height and firmness. As someone who prefers a firmer, denser pillow, I've kept all of the Nanocubes inside to keep that body, but the pillow comes with a spare pouch to store the cubes should you wish to remove some for a less dense, softer cushioning.

There's also the general aesthetic of the pillow. Miles different from your average pillow design, it features a quilted look (similar to Simba's mattresses), with a mesh border that helps encourage air circulation and a zip-off, washable cover. In testing this pillow, I realised I definitely wasn't washing my previous pillow as much as I should be, but this design just makes it so much easier.

As far as the cool-touch technology is concerned, I can't vouch for it enough. I'm what you would call a hot sleeper, and would often wake myself up with hot flushes, but this pillow — designed to offer an instant, tangible coolness (even through a pillowcase) — has completely changed that. I no longer find myself sweating in the middle of the night, and manage to sleep all the way through with ease.

In terms of the overall feel of this pillow, it’s definitely very responsive to pressure. I can only describe it as what I imagine a cloud would feel like: somewhat spongy but very durable, soft yet also a little resistant. It’s the perfect balance for a back sleeper like me!

Restless nights and a broken sleep routine wasn't uncommon for me prior to the Simba, yet now I'm getting at least seven to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep every night — and I can only thank my new pillow for that. So, if you're in the market for a quality, adjustable pillow that honestly feels like resting your head on a cloud, I would definitely make this pillow your next payday treat.

Reasons to avoid

Due to its size and plumpness, it's a snug fit in a few of my satin/silk pillowcases, so do bear that in mind ahead of investing.

I should also point out that it’s quite expensive for a pillow. However, I believe that spending a little more is worth it, especially because this pillow is high-quality and has transformed my sleep, which you really can’t put a price on. While the pillow has an initial upfront cost, I know it will last me for years to come, so in terms of cost per use, it pretty much pays for itself.

💰 Best deal we've found

You can currently shop the pillow for £92.65 from Amazon, while it's still full-price directly from Simba at £109. It rarely goes on sale, but there's a chance it could be discounted for Black Friday, so it's worth keeping an eye open. We'll update this piece if it does go on sale.

For a more budget-friendly option, there's Simba's Stratos Pillow, £60, which also features cool-touch tech, but isn't customisable.

This budget-friendly pillow has a down-like feel, and is designed with Simba's innovative cool-touch technology to help regulate your temperature as you sleep.
