Top high school performers: Durfee field hockey blanks New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD — It was a total team effort by the Durfee field hockey team on Friday.

The Hilltoppers received goals from five different players in their 7-0 shutout win over league opponent New Bedford on the road.

Kacey Curran led the way for Durfee (4-2) with a pair of goals and two assists. Alina Emery also chipped in with two goals. Ellia Delisle, Toni Freitas and Avery Motta each finished with a goal and an assist. Emily Curran had an assist.

The Hilltopper defense did not allow any shots on net.

Sept. 22, Friday

Boys soccer

Will Quinlan netted two goals in the Wildcats' 20th consecutive home win in a 4-0 victory over Bishop Stang. Marcos Dutra Africano and Jake Cross each had a goal while Carter Couto contributed an assist. Goalkeeper Noah Amaral picked up his third shutout of the season. Defensive standouts were Ryan Borges, Zachary Lopes, Ben Cross, Nick Stanton and Landen Novo.

Girls soccer

Vivienne Melo netted three goals and also played net in the Wildcats' 8-0 shutout over Bristol-Plymouth. Korynne Holden had a goal and two assists. Lily Veracka and Tess Silvia each finished with a goal and an assist. Kaelyn Butter and netminder Morgan Pacheco each had goals.

Field hockey

Emily Carr scored two goals and had an assist to lead the unbeaten Raiders to a 4-1 win over Oliver Ames. Tatum Swanson recorded a goal and assist for SBR (5-0). Karissa Albin also scored a goal. Ryan Crook chipped in with a pair of assists.

Colleen Smith had a defensive save and Hannah Abrams stopped six shots on net for the Wildcats (5-1) in Dighton-Rehoboth's 3-0 win.

Girls Volleyball

Lindsey Moniz had 13 aces and 10 kills for the unbeaten Bengals (6-0) in their win against Blue Hills. Vitoria DeOliveira and Gloria Moniz each finished with four aces. Courtney Boies contributed a pair of aces and two kills. Angela Njoroge ended with a pair of kill shots.

Hannah Storm had 18 kills to lead the Cardinals to a 3-0 win over Dighton-Rehoboth. Jayna Surrell finished with 26 assists and Madilyn Botelho contributed five aces. Nova Andree chipped in with 12 service points and Emma Rodrigues had 10 service points for Case (6-1).

Jocelyn Adorno finished with 10 kills, six aces and 13 service points for the Hilltoppers in New Bedford's 3-0 win Riley Currin had 16 assists for Durfee (2-5).

Samantha Rodrigues had 12 kills and two blocks for the Wildcats in Bristol-Plymouth's 3-1 win. Sarah Perry chipped in with 11 service points, seve aces, and two kills. Ella Turenne finished with eight service points, two aces and a kill for Westport (1-5).

Sept. 21, Thursday

Girls soccer

Olivia Rumsey had two goals and an assist to lead the Hilltoppers to a 6-0 win over New Bedford. Julia Hargraves, Kaitlyn Coutu and Daniela Bustamante each had a goal for Durfee (3-2) with a goal.

Julia Ribon, Jenai Kinard and Sophia Ferreira each had a fine game for the Tritons in Tri-County's 3-0 win. Sophia Esteves and Sofia Lima also played well for Atlantis Charter.

Field hockey

Megan Smith scored a hat trick for the Cardinals in their 5-1 win over West Bridgewater. Maeve Richardson had a goal and an assist while Emma Bouchard also scored a goal. Goalie Avery Plante had four saves in net.

Golf

Owen Boudria (43), Abby Forbes (44), Cooper Spirlet (46) and Liam McMahon (46) each shot well for the Wildcats in Bourne's 284-273 win.

Ryan Farrell finished as the top medalist in the match for the Cardinals, shooting a 40 to best his opponent by a stroke. Jack Perreira won his first varsity match, shooting a 54 and beating his opponent by a stroke in Dighton-Rehoboth's 278-295 win.

Girls volleyball

Lindsey Moniz had a team-high 18 kills, seven aces and eight digs to lead the unbeaten Bengals to a 3-2 win over West Bridgewater. Angela Njoroge contributed eight kills and five blocks for Diman (5-0). Gloria Moniz finished with seven aces, two kills, 17 assists and 15 digs. Kacie Lynch ended with six aces, five kill and 11 digs.

Lizbeth Perez contributed seven aces in the Tritons' 3-2 victory over Rising Tide. Kailany Ortiz-Garcia had five aces and four kills, and Laryssa DeSouza with 4 aces.

Sept. 20, Wednesday

Boys soccer

Gaoussou Traore and Robby Goulet each scored a goal for the Cardinals in a 2-0 win over Fairhaven. Ethan Pires had the shutout in net for Case (2-0-1).

Derrick Camara netted two goals in the Raiders' 2-2 tie with Old Rochester. Nic Scanlon and Cam Rose each chipped in with an assist. Beckett O'Brien stopped two shots for SBR (2-1-1).

Girls soccer

Freshman Abi Vallas scored her first varsity goal for the Cardinals in a 6-1 win for Fairhaven. Grace Gaspar collected the assist. Ava Gaspar had 12 saves in net for Case (1-3).

Field hockey

Senior captain Avery Avila scored the lone goal to lift the unbeaten Wildcats to a 1-0 win over Seekonk. Isabella Babb assisted on the goal and Hannah Abrams had five saves in the cage for Westport (5-0).

The Hilltoppers were blanked 1-0 over Dartmouth. "Great team effort and definitely (there) was not any quitting until the final whistle," said Durfee head coach Nicole Henrique, whose team falls to 3-2.

Golf

Durfee's Brady Sullivan led all players with a 39 in a 270-292 win over Somerset Berkley. Devin Viera finished with a 41 for the Hilltoppers (3-1-1).

Individual match winners for the Wildcats (5-1) were Owen Boudria, Cooper Spirlet, Liam McMahon, Ben Bernier and Abby Forbes in their 8.5-.5 against Case. Ryan Farrell was the top scorer for the Cardinals (3-6), shooting a 42.

Girls volleyball

Lindsey Moniz finished with 16 aces, six kills and seven digs to lead the Bengals past Bristol-Plymouth, 3-0. Vitoria DeOliveira had eight aces and seven digs. Gloria Moniz finished with six aces, four kills and nine assists. Kacie Lynch contributed two aces, two kills and two digs. Vanessa Melo had three aces, three kills and nine assists. Courtney Boies (ace, a kill, dig, and four blocks) and Angela Njoroge (kill and four blocks) each contributed for Diman (3-0).

Hannah Storm blasted 14 kills and Madilyn Botelho had 13 kills to lead the Cardinals to a 3-0 win over Fairhaven. Jayna Surrell had 32 assists. Ava Silva and Alanna Martinez each added four kills while Brianna Campos chipped in with 14 digs.

Alexis Layne had 10 digs and two aces for the Hilltoppers in Dartmouth's 3-0 win. Victoria Gomes add four kills and Jocelyn Adorno finished with three kills for Durfee (2-4).

Samantha Rodrigues ended with 11 kills and seven blocks for the Wildcats in Avon's 3-2 win. Zoey Sylvain had seven kills, five service points and five aces. Sarah Perry finished with two kills, seven service points, and four aces for Westport (1-4).

Boys Cross country

Will Rumsey and Landon Wood each had sterling performances against league opponent Brockton. Rumsey finished first overall for Durfee and 6th overall with a personal-best time. Wood placed second for the Hilltoppers and ninth overall with a personal-best time in the Boxers' 15-48 win.

Girls Cross Country

Maggie O'Connell finished first overall for Durfee and first in the race for the Hilltoppers in the Boxers' 25-30 win.

Sept. 19, Tuesday

Boys soccer

Will Quinlan exploded for four goals in the Wildcats' 7-0 win over Wareham. Nyzaiah Pacheco had a goal and two assists while Carter Couto finished with a goal and an assist. Jake Cross chipped in with a goal while Ben Novo, Zachary Lopes and Tommy Bernard each had an assist. Noah Amaral earned his second shutout of the season.

Leonardo Alfama netted the Hilltoppers lone goal in Dartmouth's 2-1 win. It is the first loss of the season for Durfee (4-1).

Girls soccer

Lily Veracka and Ella Camara each scored a pair of goals to lift Westport (1-2) to its first win of the season against Wareham. Other players who found the back of the net were Vivienne Melo, Tess Silvia, Kaelyn Butter and Julia George.

Emma McDonnell and Maddie Hargraves each scored goals in the Hilltoppers' 2-1 win over Dartmouth. Julia Hargraves finished with an assist for Durfee (2-3).

The Cardinals' Brooke Adams, Rachel Ferreira, Kambree Nell and Katelyn Bettencourt each had a solid defensive game against Greater New Bedford. Freshman Ava Gaspar had 14 saves in net for Case.

Field Hockey

Megan Smith had a hat trick in the Cardinals 4-0 win over Fairhaven. Emma Bouchard had a goal and an assist while Riley Doherty finished with an assist. Goalie Avery Plante collected her first varisty shutout in net after making three saves. Solid games for Skylar Demoranville and Cat Rousseau.

Ella Vaught, Addie Finlaw and Emily Carr each scored a goal in the Raiders' 3-2 win over Old Rochester. Ryan Crook and Karissa Albin each chipped in with an assist for SBR (4-0).

Golf

The Bengals won their first game of the year against Cape Cod Tech, 7-2. Wyatt Messier, Jacob Cabral, Jack Custodio and Jacoby Brouillard all won their matches for Diman (1-3-1).

Ryan Farrell was the top medalist in the match, shooting a 43 for the Cardinals against Bourne. It's the third time this year, Farrell has been top medalist in a match.

Boys Cross Country

Diman's Cashton Richard took first overall, extending his course record to 19:13 during a win against Bristol-Plymouth. Macauley Crossman (20:33), Izayah Summers (20:55), Dominick Alves (21:17) and Eric Valcourt (21:49) each finished in the top 15 for the Bengals (2-0).

Girls Cross Country

Alexah Pedder finished first overall (23:08) overall for the Bengals in their 18-40 win over Bristol-Plymouth. Nya Martinez placed second (24:42) and Lylah Thibeault finished in fourth (25:35). Inez Medeiros (25:59) and Emma Foley (26:25) took fifth and sixth, respectively.

Peyton Morosco, Grace Kayata and Andrianna Logakis were the top finishers for the Raiders in a dual meet against West Bridgewater and Seekonk.

Sept. 18, Monday

Girls Volleyball

Hannah Storm finished with 26 kill shots and 19 digs on the night for Case in its win against Greater New Bedford. Jayna Surrell had a career-high 45 assists for Case while Marilyn Botelho contributed 11 kill shots and 24 digs. Other top contributors were Ava Silva (eight kills and two blocks), Deanna Brightman (four kills) and Alana Martinez (four kills). Emma Rodrigues, Nicole Rebelho, and Brianna Campos each stepped up in the big comeback.

Abigail Vieira had eight kill shots and nine digs in the Raiders' 3-0 home win over Fairhaven. Annabella Karpicz chipped in with two kills, five aces and 10 digs for SBR (5-1). Addison Parent finished with 15 assists and six digs.

Sarah Perry had 13 service points, an ace and a kill for the Wildcats against Tri-County. Defensive specialist Hannah Therrien had 10 service points, four digs, and an ace. Zoey Sylvain ended with five service points, four digs, three kills and a block.
