Woman who flew in from China now missing after trip to Morongo Basin area

Sheriff’s officials need the public’s help in finding a 47-year-old woman who went missing in the Morongo Basin area nearly two weeks ago.

Fang Jin flew into Los Angeles from China on July 14 and was last heard from during a phone chat with a friend on July 22, San Bernardino County sheriff’s officials said.

Jin boarded a train from LA to the Palm Springs area, and was picked up by a man who offered to take her on a tour of the Morongo Basin area, Morongo Basin sheriff's officials stated.

Authorities did not reveal how Jin and the man she met knew each other.

She had already planned to camp in an unknown area in the Morongo Basin, which is situated southeast of Lucerne and Johnson valleys in the High Desert.

Jin is described as Asian, standing 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing nearly 110 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes.
