‘Lore’ of How Baby Lamb Came to Live in the City Is Just Too Sweet

Some people wouldn't even try to have a pet in the city, while one woman in Melbourne, Australia has a whole darn baby lamb. Erin frequently shares her city adventures with her lamb, Dusty, online. And she recently explained how the two of them came to be the ultimate city folks.

Erin jokingly calls Dusty her "roommate," but there's a whole lot of truth in the descriptor.

The woman is definitely aware of how unusual her living situation is. There's not many people who keep a lamb in the city. Which is why she took the time to explain Dusty's origin story in a new video online.

"Back home my dad's a farmer," she explained in the voiceover. "While checking the mob he found this little guy abandoned at just a day old."

Without his mom around, poor Dusty had no milk. Erin took it upon herself to care for the lamb, but when she had to go back to Melbourne for work she made an usual decision — she brought Dusty with. Eventually, Dusty will return to the pasture. But for now he gets a taste of a different slice of life.

Commenters were here for these unlikely roommates. " There is a cartoon called 'Sheep in the Big City,'" joked one commenter. "Tell Dusty that I love him," someone else pleaded. While someone else suggested a new destination for Dusty, "Lil' man needs to see the beach!" they urged. "Omg if you ever need a pet sitter, I love lambs," volunteered another person.

Best Pets for Apartment Living

Caring for a baby lamb might not be in the cards for every animal lover, especially if you live in a city. But if you're itching to bring home a fur-child, here are some better options that can adapt to apartment living easily.

Dogs are a common choice for a reason. Small pups that don't need lots of exercise make perfect city pets. And they offer so much love to their owners too.

Cats are another popular option for a reason. They never need a walk or to head to the great outdoors, making them a good choice for urban living.

Lizards can be another good companion. Sure, you might not be able to cuddle them like a dog or cat, but lizards are very cool and need very little space.

Hamsters are so tiny they can fit pretty much everywhere. Just get them a nicely sized cage and they'll be as happy as can be.

The important thing to keep in mind when picking out a city pet is to keep it small. Animals that don't need to roam or wander will do well in a one or two bedroom. So have no fear, no matter what your living situation is you can always have a pet.
