Man Comes Up With ‘Stupid’ Hack to Herd His Sheep but It's Actually Brilliant

Working on a farm is hard, but herding sheep doesn't have to be — if you know how to think quickly on your feet. One man on the internet is getting praised for coming up with a creative solution to not having a herding dog around. Although admittedly, his answer was a little *ahem* creative.

We have to give Dan Lee credit, he came up with a totally unique work around to not having a pup on his land.

Lee's plan could've gone so, so wrong. But instead it all went right. In the clip he shared, it shows his large herd of sheep after they were released from their enclosure. Now normally, there'd be a large dog trailing behind them, working hard to get the herd from one part of the property to another. But instead there was...well...a duck. A little unconventional, we know.

"When you don't have a herding dog, you gotta improvise," Lee wrote in the text overlay, before adding his lesson-learned in the caption. "If it's stupid and it works, it ain't stupid," he wrote.

Point well-made. In fact, lots of people in the comments section were cracking up at his solution. "I was expecting a lot of things not that," wrote one person. "Sheep and goats are so scared of ducks I don't know why," another commenter chimed in. "I think that’s much better than a herding dog," one person wrote. "You could’ve been ten guesses and goose would not have been one," someone else teased.

Best Herding Dog Breeds

Understandably, not everyone will be up for using ducks (or geese) to herd their sheep. If you're looking for a more traditional herding animal, dogs really are the best fit for the job. Here are just a few breeds that are known for their ability to herd animals.

Australian Shepherds or "aussies" are smart dogs. Aussies are mid-size dogs that learn quickly and aren't afraid of a day full of hard work. But they aren't all work, work, work. Aussies are loving, loyal pets that are great with children. They'll even herd your kiddos, if you let them!

Kelpies, or Australian Kelpies, don't mess around. They bring a sort of intensity to the job, but can be helpful when trying to move large animals _ like livestock. They aren't affectionate dogs, but they are incredibly loyal. Making them a good choice for families.

You might not think of Pembroke Welsh Corgis when you think of herding dogs. But their small size makes them adept and quick when working with other animals. They are awesome family dogs and are very loving animals.

While obviously a dog is best, the best solution really is whichever one gets your sheep from point A to point B.
