A British woman who moved to Thailand without her boyfriend has said their relationship is ‘stronger than ever’.

Georgia Mann, 27, first visited South East Asia as part of her university course, and decided she wanted to go back when she found herself unhappy in her job.

"I did a project in South East Asia and went to Cambodia and Vietnam,” she explains. "[After university] I was working in sales and I wasn't very good at it. I was quite unhappy."

Mann met her partner, George Keane, 26, at university, and the pair had been together for four years before Mann made the decision to move.

While Keane, who works in finance, thought the decision would mean a break up, the couple ultimately decided to try a long distance relationship

"It was a difficult conversation,” Mann explains. "When I initially brought it up he said 'well, should we break up then?'.

"I said 'I'm not going to be out there forever'. It was a bold move looking back on it. People kept questioning it and asking what about George and I? I believe if it's meant to be it will be.”

Mann believed going to Thailand would ‘heal a massive part’ of her, and says the experience helped to push her out of her comfort zone.

"I knew I had to get out there and do something and fulfil my dream of going to Thailand,” Mann explains.

"I'm so glad I went. It was the best thing I have ever done. George knew how unhappy I was. Sometimes you have to be a bit selfish."

Mann spent nine months teaching in Thailand before returning to England where she now works as a client services executive and is based in Kent.

"I think sometimes you go through difficult times and sometimes that can lead to better things,” she adds.

"It can help strengthen your relationship. In the grand scheme of things a year or a few months is not long if you're going to be with that person forever.

"It's worth taking that time out if it means a lot to you. You only live one life – there is a big world out there. Put yourself and your happiness first."
