My Mum, Your Dad viewers were sceptical David and Vicky's relationship will last.

The final of the dating show, hosted by Davina McCall, saw just three couples remaining following a dramatic new twist in which all contestants who had failed to make a romantic connection were axed. This meant just Jenny and Danny, Vicky and David and Paul and Stephanie remained in the retreat for the last episode.

And though Jenny and Danny and David and Vicky were both given the blessing of their children at the end of the show, fans did not believe David was truly committed to the match.

My Mum, Your Dad - sometimes billed as Love Island for the older generation - follows a group of single parents looking for love, with their adult children hidden in a video bunker nearby and given the power to choose who they date. At the end of the series the children must give their blessing to any relationship their parents form.

The series ended with 49-year-old sales controller Danny, from Sussex, and 51-year-old operations manager Jenny, from Cheshire, declaring they had strong feelings for one another and wanted to make their long-distance relationship work. At the final meal, their sons Malachi, 19, and Ellis, 21, gave them their blessing.

Two months on the families were shown enjoying a barbecue together. Ellis told Jenny and Danny: "It is lovely and we are so lucky that it has worked out for you two. So when you get married, you have to thank us!" Danny told Jenny: "I'd never, ever thought I'd be living this life right now with you. All of you guys."

In the final episode when the children mee teach other's parents, Vicky's daughter Angharad, 28, grilled David, a 53-year property manager from Bristol, on his commitment to her mother. She told him: "You probably know my mum's oldest daughter. I'm so protective over there, and it has been difficult for me. On some days we see you being really involved and seeming like you really like my mother. And then on some days it seems like it's not there anymore. It's just a lot of hot and cold." She then confronted him, asking: "Do you like my mother?"

David appeared awkward but eventually stuttered a reply. He said: "I'm feeling like a teenager tingling, and it's like this is a nice feeling. I'm thinking I have hold of a woman who's attractive and intellectual and I'm tingling and I like that feeling. I want to get to know those other parts 'cause there's something there."

In the end Angharad and David's daughter Tiana, 21, gave their blessing to the relationship. And two months on they were shown to be still dating.

Fans of the show were not sure the relationship between David and Vicky would stand the test of time.

One wrote on social media platform X: "In the words my old man used to say “I’ll give them a week” regarding Vicky and David #mymumyourdad" Another said: "Vicky can do so much better than David #MyMumYourDad" And another posted: "I’m just not feeling the love from David.. lovely man but a tad emotionally stunted.. sorry guys! #MyMumYourDad"

But others were delighted with the outcome of the final episode.

One tweeted: "Danny and Jenny are such a cute couple and im so glad they got blessing from their children #MyMumYourDad" Another shared: "I love that final bit. I love #mymumyourdad Delighted the 2 couples were still together." And another commented: "The ending was lovely it was good to see the others too #mymumyourdad"

Host Davina McCall revealed the show is yet to be commissioned for a third series. She encouraged viewers to tag the person they would like to see take part in the next series on social media.

She said: "My Mum, Your Dad's over, what are we going to do? I wanted to ask you a question. If we got another series, who do you think would deserver a spot in the retreat? Why don't you tag them below. If we get another series we can come back and look at this post and get in touch with everyone."

Paul and Steph decided on their final date to just be friends. The 44-year-old cafe owner from London and the 49-year-old owner of a decorating company from Bath toasted to friendship.

Their daughters, Mia, 21, and Mazey, 22, said they were proud of their parents for coming to that decision. Mazey said she thought her father had come a long way during his time in the retreat to recognise that there is more to a relationship than just the initial spark.

In the first series the parents taking part had no idea their kids were watching their every move. Series two saw the introduction of a series of new twists. The last being that all contestants who had failed to make a romantic connection were axed one day before the final. This latest bombshell did not go down well with fans, many of whom believe that all of the contestants would end up choosing to just stay friends.

Another twist saw the introduction of a secret snug, where the children are not watching. But they did have the power to vote one parent into the snug. They chose 49-year-old Danny from Sussex, who invited Jenny, 51, from Cheshire to the snug, leaving the kids unaware of what had gone on between them. But video footage played in the final episode revealed they had shared a kiss on their final date.
