National Hot Dog Day is July 19: Five places to try on the SouthCoast

Head to the corner of Cove Road and Osbourne Street in New Bedford and try out the hot dogs at Kiyla's Korner. Surrounded by colorful picnic tables this hot dog stand has numerous options to try, like the classic BLT Dog topped with bacon, lettuce, and tomato; the Pizza Dog topped with pizza sauce and cheese and you can choose to add pepperoni, linguica, or bacon; or the New England Dog with baked beans and bacon. You can get your dog streamed, grilled, all beef, or even veggie.

You don’t get a hot dog at Sixes & Sevens, you get a hot dawg served on a warm brioche bun. You can’t go wrong with the Chicago-style Air Bud topped with diced onion, tomato, dill pickle chips, and sport peppers; or the Atomic Dog topped with habanero and bacon jam with shredded cheese. These griddled “dawgs” are being plated up at 7 South 6th St., New Bedford.

For decades Dee's Hot Dogs has been serving hot dogs to New Bedford residents. They serve steamed Kayem hot dogs that you can customize with over a dozen toppings. Celebrating 39 years in business at 958 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, Gary's Best Hot Dogs knows a thing or two about hot dogs. Local favorites on the menu are the Rodeo Dog with honey BBQ sauce and crunchy fried onions; and the Reuben Dog with sauerkraut and Russian dressing. Their new summer hours have them open daily.
