Directed by Bad Boys for Life's Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the film sees legendary Miami cops Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) reunite on a case that hits close to home.

Following the death of Captain Howard (Joe Pantoliano) in the previous movie, Mike and Marcus are forced to restore the late police captain's reputation after he is framed for a crime he didn't commit.

The sequel brings back Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig and Paola Núñez from the previous film as AMMO members Kelly, Dorn and Rita Secada, respectively.

Tasha Smith joins the cast as Marcus's wife Theresa Burnett, taking over from Theresa Randle, with Grey's Anatomy actor Eric Dane also appearing as new villain James McGrath.

Despite its success at the box office, the film received mixed reviews from critics. It currently sits at a 65% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes from 248 reviews – a considerably lower rating than the franchise's third film.

In our three-star review, Digital Spy branded the movie "an action-packed, enjoyable and playful new chapter for the saga, perfectly capable of convincing fans and non-believers".
