This selection of images taken by Tom Jenkins at the 2024 Paris Olympics comprises photographs of the beach volleyball, the tennis gold medal match at Roland Garros, and the gymnast Simone Biles on the uneven bars.
1. Women’s beach volleyball
The temporary beach volleyball arena (pictured above) that was built under the Eiffel Tower featured imported sand and DJs blasting out music during games after dark. With its party atmosphere and picturesque backdrop, it became the defining location of the Paris Games. The French president, Emmanuel Macron, called it “magnificent”.
2. Men’s tennis final
The gold medallist, Novak Djokovic, takes on Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the men’s singles at Roland Garros (pictured above). Built in 1928 on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne in the west of Paris, the Roland Garros stadium, which is home to the French Open, hosted the Olympic tennis tournament on its clay courts, then hosted the final boxing events.
3. Simone Biles
The US athlete Simone Biles performs on the uneven bars during the final of the women’s gymnastics team event at Bercy Arena on 30 July 2024.
