Coronation Street to expose truth in Hope and Beth slap storyline

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street revisits Hope Stape and Beth Sutherland's slap storyline next week.

Fans have been waiting to see whether Beth's guilt will be exposed after she secretly slapped Hope at the start of this month.

The unlikely enemies have been bickering over Beth's pet dog Peanut, after Hope's lies nearly led to the animal being put to sleep.

When Hope later told her parents that Beth was violent towards her during a row in the street, Fiz and Tyrone didn't believe her.

Next week, Hope confides in her best friend Sam Blakeman about the upsetting situation.

Hope recalls the moment that Beth slapped her and reveals that the Underworld machinist warned her not to bother grassing her up, as nobody would believe her.

Sam is shocked by this revelation and becomes determined to see justice served.

The schoolboy approaches Tyrone, explaining that Hope has been telling the truth and deserves to be listened to properly.

Will Tyrone and Fiz realise that they've made a terrible mistake?

Last week, Coronation Street's producer Iain MacLeod confirmed that Hope's storylines will go in a new direction this year.

Speaking on ITV1's Loose Women, MacLeod commented: "She's certainly not going to continue going down such a troubled path, in the short to medium to long-term.

"We thought: 'Actually, we've done some very dark and twisted things with that character, and okay that'll still be part of her, but for the next 12 months we're going to do normal pre-teen stuff'.

"We're going to be building a friendship with her and Sam, that will verge on a very innocent pre-teen romance a little bit and they try to navigate those waters.

"Yes okay, it will always have a Hope twist on it because she's maybe wired a bit differently than most kids her age. She won't necessarily get help, but we'll see a more down-to-earth grounded side of her."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
