Coronation Street's Carla and Lisa to grow closer in upcoming scenes

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Carla Connor and Lisa Swain are set to grow closer in upcoming scenes.

DS Swain was promoted to a regular character back in March. She has since formed an unexpected connection with Carla, which began during the Lauren Bolton investigation.

The duo became more involved in each other's lives after Lisa's daughter Betsy began working at Carla's Underworld factory.

It's clear that Carla and Lisa have some chemistry in their scenes together, with fans now questioning whether a romance could be on the cards for the pair.

In scenes set to air next week, Betsy tries to speak to her mum about Mason's latest threats towards her, but Lisa is preoccupied when her phone rings. Annoyed that her mum isn't paying attention to her, Betsy walks out.

At the factory, Carla assures Betsy that her mum loves her and asks her to ease up on Lisa. Will Betsy try to work things out with her mum?

After sharing her frustrations about Betsy with Carla, Lisa seems to grow closer to the Underworld boss.

How will Betsy feel about their blossoming friendship?

Vicky Myers, who plays Lisa, recently spoke to Digital Spy at a photoshoot for this year's Inside Soap Awards, where she opened up about her character's friendship with Carla.

The actor revealed that the romance rumours came as a surprise, adding: "That wasn't the intention – we just played the scene, so I guess they saw something that perhaps we didn't. We just played the truth of our characters and it's progressed from there.

"I think it's really quite lovely, and it'd be interesting for the two of them to have more of a relationship – as a friendship.

"They're both of a similar age, and they're vulnerable in a similar way. They've both built up this façade and protective mechanism because ultimately they're scared of being hurt. I think that would make an interesting dynamic, because they're quite similar but also very, very different."

Myers thought it was unlikely that the soap would explore a romance after all the speculation, as Lisa and Betsy are still "grieving" the death of Lisa's partner.

"So for now, the story is so busy with other things. But I think it'd be really nice if Lisa could go to The Rovers with Carla and have some red wine. I think it'd be nice to see that side of both of them," she added.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
